I worked how much rice I would need if I had to eat it twice a day for a year, ie 2 ounces x 365 + the same amount for the dog. (My dog has had home-made meals since last summer, after I read the label on the packet of his commercially-made dried dog food and found that it was half rice and included salt - why would anyone feed a dog salt!) Ditto porridge oats.
I know, how mad! The same crazy b*astards will be stock pilling foods next.
On a serious note, would you be that bothered about feeding your dog if the world was ending and you were living on stock pilled rice?
For the record, this thread is a perfect example of why I love reading and posting on this board. A smattering of complete and utter mentalists, funny people taking the p*ss out said mentalists, some genuinely laugh out loud posts and some actual useful nuggets of information (licking your own car window for water for example. Not sure why you haven't sold the car at that point, but I like the thought).0 -

I Googled something like
condensation stone night collect
Apparently, in the Crimea as long ago as the 16th century, the inhabitants knew how to collect drinking water by way of stone heaps.
This is useful too....but sounds like quite a palava...and you have to have dry matches of course....or then you've got to do the rubbing twigs thing to get the fire going. It all sounds very timec onsuming..CONDENSING SALT WATER
It is possible to condense sea water without equipment and obtain sufficient fresh water.
A coolamon is made or alternatively a hole is scraped in the ground and lined. The salt water is put into this hole. A fire is built and stones are put into it to heat up. These, when hot, are put into the salted water which soon boils and then water vapor is soaked up by a towel or thick mat of cloth.
In time, this will become literally saturated and may be wrung out, yielding a fair quantity of fresh drinkable water. Once the cloth is cool the collection of water vapor is fairly rapid.0 -
Top survivalist tip - the car's radiator is full of water, it may be rusty & a bit grim, but better than nothing."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -

I still have boxes of sardines and dried mash from the H5N1 scare, not going to get into all that again, it becomes addictive and there are always other things to get, it never stops.
We had a Millenium store cupboard which morphed into a birdflu store cupboard and may now become a recession store cupboard!0 -

Does it end with you in a rocking chair on your porch wielding a shotgun?
With one of those 'THE END IS NIGH" sandwich boards wrapped around you?0 -
