Cats keep us pretty mice free now, and would have a good go at the rats if the barn were closer. I think I need a terrier. :(

A couple of jack russels will sort the rats out.

Has anyone started to stock up on basic foodstuffs etc in case they or their partners are made redundant?

I think I read somewhere that you were best to have enough dry/tinned foodstuffs in for up to 6 months (not so much frozen in case we start having power cuts).

We get a Sainsburys delivery every week, no need to get 6 months supply in all at once, although they did have a special offer last week of 25% of all wine (6 or more bottles) so I did get about 6 weeks supply in.

When it comes to catching rats, jack russels (or parsons terriers if you prefer) are the masters.

Oh, I agree...but hen it comes to living with them....they are not for me. :) wonderful as they are as people. In fact, I would have borrowed one this winter but I have put so much poison down I'd be concerned. (I hate poison, would prefer a terrier.)

    Sorry.
    I just think they're ace.

I have a stream running through my garden. and I also keep chickens. Both of which attract rats.

Well, used to attract rats until I got a jack russel.
Suffice to say, they don't find it too attractive in my garden anymore.

    :)
