  • Crikey Jikey - we've not really got enough room for the Christmas stockpile at the moment.

    Turkey and cranberry sandwich anyone, because it sure as heck won't go in the freezer ...

    Will we have electric? If not the freezer stuff will be no good.

    I shall buy another big bag of pasta and be done with it. I won't open it until necessary or the use by date whichever is the earlier.

    Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and little or no water. Have a manual can opener and eating utensils. Avoid salty foods, as they will make you thirsty.

    * Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables
    * Protein or fruit bars
    * Dry cereal or granola
    * Peanut butter
    * Dried fruit
    * Nuts
    * Crackers
    * Canned juices
    * Non-perishable pasteurised milk
    * High energy foods
    * Vitamins
    * Comfort/stress foods
  • Just a quick question... should I set my sky plus to record Eastenders for the next couple of weeks, just in case? I'm hoping we'll miss all the meltdown as we're currently living in Germany. If the worst happens let me know and I'll post you some Bratwursts and German lager.

    Why would someone being made redundant result in a food shortage? Are the supermarkets only allowing employed people to shop?

    If someone is made redundant they may not get a pay off or not much of one, so the family will be short of money. Where do they get the extra money to buy food from if what bit of money they have coming in is to pay off bills.

    Council tax and other utilities still have to be paid, if they have enough food in the house to last hopefully until they can get another job it is one less thing to worry about.

    So what should we stockpile? I've had a 'sorte' upstairs in the boxroom for ages.
    There's tins of;
    beans
    tomatoes
    spaghetti
    Dog food (have you seen the price of that lately :eek: )

    I've got some bags of flour and a couple of bags of pasta, but haven't a clue what else I should have there?

    Biscuits maybe? :o

    Biscuits - yes (life without Hobnobs:eek: no way)
    Teabags, water and UHT milk - yes
    Chocolate (Toblerones) - yes
    Dog food - yes (don't want the mutts eating you before you get to the point of thinking about pooch casserole)
    Wine.

    Anything I've forgotten?

    Heavens !! You're not going to be reduced to eating that, are you? :eek:
  • I still have boxes of sardines and dried mash from the H5N1 scare, not going to get into all that again, it becomes addictive and there are always other things to get, it never stops.

    If things do go pair , then this time I reckon imported things to barter are the way forward. Having a box full of goblin pies when there are plenty in the shops at an extra tuppence a tin aint going to help.

    Ebay style bartering sites are set for huge growth imo
