Hi Shazzer! You've really been busy, haven't you?! That's brilliant news about the job - which one was it? I think you were looking at two different ones weren't you?

I think you should definitely book the holiday in Corfu if you're able to get it really cheap. Like you say, you'll need a break from work and I always think it's better to take things slow and steadily with the debt and enjoy yourself now and again than to go cold-turkey with absolutely everything and then get fed up and lose the plot altogether (been there!).

Are you on dooyoo? It's a fab way of making a bit of cash and good fun too. I just joined last week and have spent very little time there but so far I've got about a tenner in the pot, which could easily be a lot more if I had a bit more free time. I'd say a couple of quid a day is easily achievable. I got some great advice from Choca, which I think she got from Hypno, so if you do decide to give it a go, give me a shout and I can pass it on to you. There's quite a lot of etiquette to be followed that's not obvious at all when you sign up!

Enjoy the hols in the IoW. I've only been there once for the day with a load of mates when we lived in Soton. Found beer garden, got drunk, came home again. Don't remember much else about it!
  • :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've had a lovely relaxing few days  in the IoW and just returned home. I've had the chance to do allot of thinking and it has made me even more determined to get out of this mess.

Altogether our break was very MSE... here's the run down
    • Lunch at a pub in Lymington - expensive, not a very good start but lovely
    • Onboard the ferry - Bf decided he needed £2, which he helped himself to from my purse... then I scowled at him because it went in the fruit machine (and needless to say didn't win anything)
    • On walking back down to the car deck managed to spot a poster advertising both Carisbrook Castle and Osbourne House, text a number for 2for1 entry! Saved us £15!
    • Checked into Travelodge - very basic, but £19 per night
    • Car parking - managed to get this free due to low emissions car (glad we took my boyfriends car now!)
    • Tuesday night dinner - tried to go to Pizza Express but was full so booked for last night, went to a small Italian which was good value
    • Wednesday - Osbourne House and Carisbrook Castle with 2 for 1 entry. Had snack at tea rooms though which was a small fortune.. the bf paid but I did feel a tad guilty.
    • Pizza Express £10 favorites menu - we had fun spotting people on first dates/early v-day dinners... we're nosey really!

Just logged on to my internet banking and HSBC have finally credited my £5 for switching to a Green Account.

By the looks of things I look set to finally see some money from quidco too this month which will be good, also won £5 on free scratchcards on Tuesday i forgot to add! So not a bad week so far really!

Off to figure out what to cook the darling BF for dinner tomorrow night, see what vouchers I can find and head to Tesco before the schools finish for the day and its bedlam.

Well, I haven't been up very long, relishing the fact I have a week off before starting on the dreaded 9-5. I've got a feeling I'm really going to miss having days off in the week, being able to go to the bank/post office without a queue and shopping when everyone else is at work. Oh well, at least the money is worth it.

I've had the salary information back and it means that my gross will be £30,090.75 plus £3588.00 of compensation for shift pay changes = £33,678.75. I then am able to earn bonuses but not sure how achievable that will be this year.

Until now I was earning £20,833.00 plus £3588.00 shift pay, so £24,241.00 so a £9,437.75 pay rise. Gosh, that's allot when you look at it!

How do I work out what tax I will need to pay on that? So looking forward to being actually able to afford my bills now, I may even work my way out of the overdraft!

Hi there, if you haven't already worked it out, then there is a calculator on listentotaxman.com
  • Good morning all! Just thought I would post a quick update as I've been a bit slack of late. Still managing to get in and check the boards everyday but after having a bit of time off going back to work yesterday seemed to be a struggle after only a week off!

Starting with my new department tomorrow, doing a split week next week between old and new so should be interesting! I'm very much looking forward to it but I am a bit apprehensive.

Freezer broke yesterday, thankfully it is my landlords but still had to transfer loads of food to our other freezer in a hurry and it was all a bit stressful before work, never mind. Engineer is coming round to take a look today.

Hope everyone has a lovely day, I shall post a proper update later this evening hopefully!

Hope that the first day on the new job went well today!
    Nyeh to crappy landlord's freezers.
  • Hey - been an odd few days, been weird trying to get into some sort of routine and then the weekend comes along! Boyfriend is back to work now so distractions are out of the way! Really need to get my head around my money as it is rapidly running away with me again.

Off to look at wedding dresses this morning (no - not for me, my housemate!) so will really focus on money either tonight or tomorrow morning.

I haven't had a no spend day all week and haven't kept my spending diary up to date either :(

Need a kick up the @rse!
  • Well, I didn't get the kick up the bottom I really needed last week so pay day is here today and its all pretty much gone out or is accounted for anyway :(

Feeling really quite depressed about it all. I'm going to have a clear out of all my paper work and attempt to 'de-clutter' and hope it puts me in a more positive mood. Can't hear out of my left ear because its blocked and I've got the beginnings of a cold.

Signed up to Green Metropolis last night and ended up buying a book! Not the way it's meant to work! So I shall attempt to sort out a pile to add on to sell and will tell my boyfriend about it too as he buys books by the busload.

So far managed to get one load of washing in the machine and tidied the kitchen, so the morning hasn't been a complete write off!

Evening all... not a very cheery day for me today. I've finally realised, enough is enough, I am going to have to take drastic action in order to get myself through this.

I called up my brother and after allot of tears and blubbering asked if it would be ok to move back home for a while (he lives and looks after my 77 year old dad) I am only thinking for a couple of months to get myself out of constantly being in my overdraft and in a more manageable situation.

Problem is I have no clue what this will do to my relationship, its going to be very difficult both me and my boyfriend living back at each of our parents (100 mile round trip away) I have to give a months notice on my place at the moment, so I am going to have a long talk with my boyfriend on Wednesday evening but just now attempting to get my thoughts in order. Its been a long day but I'm feeling a bit more positive after having a good think. I've had this sick feeling in my stomach and been trying to put the bad bits to the back of my mind but it just got to the point where I had to figure a way out. I feel very disappointed in myself. I've got this fantastic new job and should be on top of the world, but really I'm scared, lonely and feeling like everything is coming down around my ears. I can't stop crying and all I want is a hug from my mum (who has no idea what's going on)

I've asked my brother not to say anything to my dad at the moment, I wanna get my plan clear in my own head first.

I need to figure out how much the commute to work will cost me, as I'll be moving back to near Bournemouth and driving to Southampton every day (v. annoying!) but surely a lot less then I am paying in rent at the moment and also figure out exactly for how long I am going to do it for.

I'll be moving back into the box room (which literally is a box room - with all boxes of my stuff in it from when I moved last time and didn't have the room to bring everything with me :rotfl:) So need to get my entire life onto ebay and make as much money and get rid of as much junk as possible so I don't end up just moving stuff from Hampshire to Dorset and back again!

Feeling tired and drained now, so off for a mooch around the boards for ideas and to hopefully let me drift off to sleep...

Thanks for all of your thoughts and advice, I've got a feeling its gonna be a rocky few months ahead.

I have woken up this morning a little bit more positive, its a wet and dreary day outside but I'm hoping that wont make my day the same! I shall not let it!

I've also had another thought rather then moving home I could sell my car, trouble is I a not entirely sure what its worth and I need to investigate the cost of getting to/from work on the bus/train. My friend round the corner gets the train to work so it is feasible (and a bit greener!) Work to travel loans for public transport so might check that out today.

Anyways, best be getting ready for work, going in early as need to leave early tonight as going to the doctors about my ear again, hopefully they can sort it out!

Hope everyone has a good day

Aw, bless, hope that you've got it sorted out a bit now. Sorry, I've not been around much the past couple of weeks so missed your post.

Staying with your dad and brother doesn't sound ideal, and it doesn't really sound like you want to do it. I used to do the journey you're talking about from Soton to Bmth every day but the other way around, and it was a pain in the a*se, as well as costing a fortune in fuel. Not to mention the speeding fines when they first put those sodding cameras up on the Wessex Way! - maybe if you could get the car selling option to work that would be better? Although do you need it to see your BF or can he come to see you instead?

I can't remember where you and your bf were in the scheme of things - was moving in together not an option? Or maybe just renting a room in a house somewhere near work? Just ideas - probably all crap.

Hope you're feeling cheerier anyway. How's the job going?
