71 Mini 1000, bought at 18 mnths old - 2 w/wshr bottles, steering col lock, fuel sender gauge all failed, plus had to have floor welded under seat (and I'm not that heavy!), started rusting in wings at about 4 yrs old. Died in '77 when had disagreement with truck (his fault).

Ex demo 85 Fiat Uno (903cc) had persistent problem with it cutting out which could be cured by rubbing rotor arm on tyre - accidentally discovered this, but probably the act of removing r/arm from dist and putting it back, cured problem tempoarily.

G and S - you would have had problems with a 2 litre V4 Mk 4 Zodiac, the Zody had the 3 litre V6, it was the Mk 4 Zephyr which had the 2 litre V4, or alternatively the 2.5 litre V6.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Absolutely right, sorry my error, the V4 was the Zephyr, i should remember that name with hatred as being the most awful car imaginable.

Very difficult to believe just how good the Zodiac was, as it was basically the same shell and suspension, it had some good use put to that oh so comfy interior in my youth......

I also had a superb mk3 zodiac executive (very few of those made, leather bucket front seats), still can't believe that when the mot was due i stripped it out and banger raced it, a truly heinous crime, only surpassed by the westminsters and rover 90's/P5 3 litre's that met the same fate.

I'll wear me hair shirt tomorrow for penance.

Im spotting a pattern here....not called FIAT (Fix It Again Tomorrow) for nothing :D

92 Fiat Punto - Electrics would go haywire on a regular basis so when you indicated everything flashed. Head Gasket killed it in the end at 36k. At that point I sold it for scrap.

Fiat Tipo - fine except it didn't like the wet and refused to start when it was raining or even just damp despite many mechanics best efforts. Also didn't like torrential rain as we discovered on a French motorway in a downpour when it stalled at 65 in the fast lane...happy days

My first was a teapot too! 1.6, dgt sx. Digital dashboard - felt like knighrider. Most unreliable car in the world, everything replaced at least once. I loved it, best car
    ive ever driven

    Two lemons for me.

The first was a 1995 Land Rover Discovery which I had from new. It was never out of the garage. It had a variety of minor and major faults including a gearbox replacement. The final straw was a vacuum pump failure which meant that the brakes lost all servo-assist. My wife was driving at the time with our two young children and had the foresight to pull the car to a stop on the handbrake. The RAC recovered it to the dealers and I never saw it again. At 15 months old with 55,000 on the clock Land Rover paid off the lease and took it back off me.

My second was a 2000 Chrysler PT Cruiser - a triumph of style over function. I was never more excited about getting a car and never more disappointed about driving it. I hated it from the day I got it. It wasn't especially unreliable it was just a pig to drive and averaged around 24mpg - terrible for a 2 litre petrol car. I was stuck with it for two years. In its last 9 months it did less then 100 miles as I just left it parked on the drive. It was that car which convinced me that two wheels were better than four so I haven't owned a car since - although my wife has had several.

We have a diesel PT, never been a moments trouble. Fuel economy is brilliant with it, although I will concede it has the turning circle of a tractor :D
    I enjoy driving it though.

    choice of 3

91 Golf - head gasket (went after 3k)
    93 Rover 220 coupe - head gasket (after 36k)
240GLT - gearbox fell apart 3 times up and down the M6/M40 on separate occasions (over 100k)
222SE - anything, as the local garages couldn't fix anything on it, so required a 100 mile round trip for any work.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Worst was a Renault 4 I bought new in 1970. Electrics were only 6 volt, it was grossly underpowered and kept over heating. The headlights were like a couple of candles.

Best was a Nissan Altima when I lived in the US; for some strange reason it was never marketed here.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
