Both my 15 year old and my 13 year old get 2.50/ week. The 15 year old has a paper round and earns approx 40.00 a week. The 13 year old is given the opportunity to earn extra money by doing chores around the house. I devised a chores tarrif with each job having a set amount they could earn. He tends to fall back on this when he is saving up for something in particular. Both of them have a contract phone that we pay for. Occaisionally I'll give them an extra couple of quid through the holidays to go to swimming or to the pictures.

Ours get 50p p/w for each year of their age. We pay for Brownies/Swimming/Out of School activities. They're too young to go out on their own, but if they go with their friends Mum'd eg cinema, we pay for that. DD has a mobile, but doesn't use it, she has to top that up herself. They mostly spend it on rubbish, it burns a hole in DD's pocket, so I've started giving them 1/2 in cash and 1/2 straight into their bank accounts. DD has a tendancy to break stuff, so she has to save and replace them. She had to save for a DS last year because she left hers in the chippy. She's currently saving to replace her laptop screnn, which she broke in a temper. I sometimes think she'll never learn.

How much pocket money for a young teen? My DS is 13 and I have no idea if what he gets compares - I think its about right, OH thinks its too much.....

We have a SO to his account monthly so he has to budget and its for phone credit, treats, magazines, trips out with mates and if he wants to top up the clothes we buy him to designer ones!

I think mine was about £10 a week then £20 when I was 14 but I worked with my Mum in her before and after school club so I event it.

Can I add a question too, when do you start giving pocket money?

50p per year, per week, so currently, DS1 get £5.50 and DS2 gets £4. They save this, or use it for activities or to buys lego. big DS also gets his phone topped up by me once a month by £5 or £10; but that's for me more than him, he doesn't really communicate with anyone except me or his dad by mobile.

we started about 8 with a bit of cash every week but it didn't really work. When he went to high school we stopped buying all the bits and bobs and gave him the money instead

This is the question I have been wanting to know.

My DD is 12, I give her £10 every Monday to put on her finger (electronic) for school dinners, But by the Friday I am having to go into the school and put more on as she has spent it all :(. We also give her money for guides and youth club (twice a week) gives us some piece as she can be a handful so we don't mind this.
She does not do nothing in the house, never keeps her room clean, So We don't give her anymore cash. But she is off to Switzerland with the guides in the summer term and she has £0 saved up for spends, I have said to her to help more, even if it's just washing plates and cutlery, keeping her room clean, picking up after herself, taking the washing in, anything. But she to lazy. Of course I been putting few £ away each week for her spends, But she does not know this, And to be honest she does not deserve it, But as a parent it's the right thing to do, as couldn't see her go away with £0. Luckily nanny and grumpy paid for the actual trip.

How can I get it through to her she needs to do things to receive money?

Mine are 15 and 13 and get £10 a week paid into their banks by S/O.

Their pocket money is just for things they want, such as days out, cinema, clothes they don't need, make up, games etc...

I still get them things they need. (clothes, underwear, coats, school stuff etc...)

Son also gets £3 a week for footy subs and daughter gets £3 for the gym once a week.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
