Lovefilm free trial

Options
The T&Cs say that you must cancel your subscription and return any DVDs before the end of the month trial in order to not become a paying member.
2 questions:
1. Would they automatically send you the next film in your list when you return one?
How do you cancel your subscription?

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Cancelling is the hardest thing in the world to do with these bunch of cowboys.

You always get an answermachine (you can only cancel by speaking to them), and they then may or may not call you back, and if you miss the message it says you have to call them back to cancel; which you get an answermachine, and so it goes on.

In the end I had to cancel my credit card and change my postal address to their head office, only then did they stop sending the damn films out and charging me. I emptied my list, but they sent me random films instead. Emails and letters went ignored.

Forgot them, find a decent company to rent from.

Would you mind if I asked you when you actually subscribed to Lovefilm?

Well i've just looked at the website and you just go "My Account->Cancel My Account", tick the radio button as to why you're cancelling, click "Cancel my account" and job done.

They used to do cancellations at an indian call centre, but they stopped doing it like that mainly because the operators would invariably offer you "buy one month, get two free" deals all the time if you tried to cancel.

As I said, this stopped a good year ago.

I'm very surprised at this - i've used lovefilm extensively for more than 5 years, even before they took over screenselect and then joined up with Amazon and i've never known this to happen at all. I personally found that if you got below 10 films, they just never sent you anything out at all which used to annoy me greatly.

To the OP: When you return a film, they do automatically pick another one for you - it's not necessarily in list order, more like what's available at the time.

To cancel, just go to "My Account" and look for the "Cancel Account" option and select that - it takes you through a few screens where they ask you why you're cancelling and offer you a different subscription package, but if you just keep clicking "No Thanks, Cancel", which is the button on the bottom right of the page usually, you should be fine.

here's how do this offer: a week or two before your trial is up take out all dvds from your list. Send the ones you have back recorded delivery. Once it is confirmed in your account that they have received the DVDs, cancel it online then you won't have to ring up to cancel, which I've heard can be difficult.

    :)

If only it were that easy!!!

The problem is they won't close your account until you've sent back all the films, and they keep sending films so the account never gets cancelled, there always seems to be one order in progress.

Sorry, but I too wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, but I'm glad you've had a rare good experience with them.

see my post. for peace of mind send them back first and empty list. Then the account will be cancelled when going through the cancellatin process as they'll be no discs outstanding and none ready for dispatch ;)
    :D
  • i have never had any problems with lovefilm, the same day that you send your last disks back empty your list and they don't send any more disks. When your account says that your last disks have been received then cancel your account. I have done it half a dozen times and every time without any problem. If you cancel late at night then you don't have to phone them either. The last couple i have done, i havn't had to phone.

    It is that easy though.

True, but then any online dvd rental company will do the same thing - it's standard practice.
and they keep sending films so the account never gets cancelled, there always seems to be one order in progress.

well unless lovefilm have adopted a different procedure since i've taken out my latest free trial, i don't actually think that's entirely accurate.

they only send films out when they receive your last lot back - they don't just arbitrarily send out films as and when they feel like it.

I am still at a loss to see how people still think you have to ring them to cancel because the cancellation link is there on the website right in front of you.

the only time i've ever had issues with account cancellations is when i've tried to squeeze an extra delivery out of them and try and get the disks back on the day the account is due, so i can cancel then.

I've learnt the hard way that it's really not worth it, so i always write a reminder on my calendar at least 3 or 4 days before the trial ends, and i make sure that if i have any disks, they're posted back on that day and then i go online and cancel then - as far as lovefilm are concerned, the website says that i've got X disks outstanding and will not fully cancel until they're returned, and as i've posted them out that day - with a proof of posting as well - then invariably, they'll arrive the next day and it's all sorted.
you've had a rare good experience with them.

I would say that it's rare to read of people who have bad experiences with them to be honest - there are many online rental companies who are worthy of criticism but in my experience, lovefilm aren't one of them.

I do believe you,but am slightly stuck as to why when I click cancel Under "My account" it comes up with the following:
    Cancel my account

Alternatively, if you are calling from a mobile or are unable to connect to freephone numbers, you may wish to call on 020 8631 0020.

I think you can only cancel when the phone lines are closed (after 10pm) Then the online link should be active
