I do appreciate the imput from both of you whilst I popped out for a while. I will now go and see for myself.
Incidently, just been to the tip with my son. In the area where they "sell"/"recycle" items, we found a box of 12 four ring binders still with an unbroken seal. Then we found four more, Bought the lot for £2 ! now that really is moneysaving. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. What a bloody performance !. Because my BT required a section of account/bill number, it so happened that it contains O or is it 0, then there was l or L or1 or I, all slightly different but nevertheless important. After much permutating, I got it right.
Then I saw the amount since the last bill (under £1) which was OK and told me there wasn't anything sinister about the dial-up number. But I thought, I'd like to see it itemised. I then registered for that and was sent an email which informs me of two things :-
1) it will take five days to instigate this feature and
2) and I quote "you have now activated your ebill from BT and will no longer receive a paper bill".
So my friends, what now ?. I await your next suggestion. If nothing is forthcoming I will communicate with them by phone tomorrow and cancel the ebill as I want PAPER, and ideally would've like to see my calls to date via the screen. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I get online bills only. I didn't know you could get both - but certainly the default when you opt for online bills is that you don't get paper bills.
Why DO you need paper ones too? The online ones stay on there for at least a year so you can always trace back. And they give more information that the paper ones because they can be aggregated and sorted as you please.0 -
Talk about putting you through hoops!
See what they say when you phone them (refer them to the FAQ I quoted from).
If the worst comes (ie they insist on paperless billing) then you can just cancel the on-line service.0 -
Mark, you are quite right, there is no reason in this dayand age for paper bills etc. However, there is the little matter of couples who are, well, over a certain age and all this technical stuff is perhaps passed them by, and once your've reached a certain age, there is no chance that many of them/us will ecer experience cyberspace.
Being over 60 and retired through ill health, I am venturing into new area's each and every day through this thing called the internet.
However, 'erindoors" is concerned that I may leave her with untold problems if I pop my clogs before her. For instance, now that I'm on-line with 18866/1899/talktalk she says quite rightly, who will sort that out if...........?
Then there is the little matter of elect/gas on the net ?
My recent but soon to be cancelled "no-paper"BT bill ?
Far be it from me to quote the "good old days" when you new exactly where you were.
So Mark, guessing that you are still on the good side of 40, you are in a much better position than myself/us.
Ref the telephone providers quoted, as a last resort, I could easily cancell them and use one of the other providers that simple require a prefix, ie cheapercalls.com.
I'll let you know how I get on with BT.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have BT changed their system I was on the online billing some time ago but you could then only view passed bills which seemd a waste of time so I changed back, at that time you could have oneline or normal bills through the post not both. I can view my up to date total but not itemised. If they now have itemisation on current bills available I will change back. Do they ?0

If I was you I'd be tempted to ring BT, explain about how your wife feels about it all and see how you get on.
As a wife and someone that's a total technophobe in most respects, I think I'd be happier with a paper bill too.
You could always tell them what Smart mentioned re the FAQ's (but don't say Smartasss from MSE pointed it out
)
And well done on your 'find' at the recycle area ;D
P.S. Good luck with it all. Hope whatever was dialled wasn't one of those 'rogue' things.0 -
Thanks to your link I've been back. I have to say that when I phone BT tomorrow I will compliment them on their site and give it 10 out of 10 for giving me a headache. Thankfully I have only spent under £1 since I paid my bill (excluding line rental) so clearly it wasn't a rogue dialer. However, if the amount HAD been excessively high and that I was denied for 5 days, the chance to read an itemised bill, I would have been up the wall with worry.
If other companies can and do allow you to read an itemised bill within seconds of the call being made, I find it strange that BT can't.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You can get an up to date "cost of calls" since the last bill without bothering with all this online carry on!
Ring the BT "call my bill service" - it's free - 0800 854 608.0
