Whilst surfing this morning, (Wannadoo Anytime dial-up)I don't know what happened but suddenly I lost my connection and the dial up box appeared. It wasn't the box that normally appears, but I have seen it before.
I clicked "connect" and wrote down the dial up number and sure enough got connected.
This afternoon, I decided to log on again. When the usual dial up box appeared, my password asterics were in place, I deleted them and replaced them, clicked connect and wrote down the dial-up number, and got connected.
As an after thought, I looked at both the dial up numbers and they were different.
I rang Wannadoo and informed them. It seems the dial up number I noted this morning was NOT my allocated number. The number I am on now, IS.
I've been told to keep my dial up numbers by the screen to see if this happens again and if so, call Wannadoo.
Now, over to you. Being a pessimist, I am thinking to myself, I wonder if the number that gave me access to the net this morning was one of those rouge diallers. Can someone offer an opinion ? and suggest a course of action. Ages ago I requested to BT a ban on Premium Rate calls, so should I be safe ?, should I have said anything about the internet ?.
I await anxiously your input and suggest to others they too monitor this thread, just in case.

I don't know what your Wanadoo dial-up number should be (I assume 08xx xxx xxxx) but, if a rogue dialler infected your PC, the number would have started 09.30 years, 217 days!0
-
Don't quote me on this but I think Wanadoo's first 4 digits should be 14700
-
The correct number begins 147008 but the one which set alarm bells ringing was 147016 etc.0

I'm not very technically minded but can't you check your BT phone bill as up to now?
Then you'd spot any out of the ordinary phone numbers that appeared on your statement?
Hope it's not a rogue number. Good luck.0 -
Think I may be one jump unsuccessfully ahead. On Sat I tried to access my BT calls on line, but understood access is up to 10pm the previous day, when this had not occured.
Today (Sun) I tried to access BT again, but it is my undrestanding that to be presented with all calls on-line, you have to agree to have "paperless bills". I prefer my bills from BT on paper, so consequently am denied this facility. ?. Is this so ?0 -
Paperless billing is just an option.
You can have both services.
This is from the BT site's FAQs:Will I still receive my paper bill while on the BT Online service?
Yes, you will continue to receive your paper telephone bill and in addition be able to view your full call itemisation details online through our View My Bill service. In addition you may be able to use the print capability of your Internet Browser to print the call detail from the online eBill.0 -
Thanks smart
I was just checking on the website and I got this far:
"BT Online customers can access itemised call details whenever they want - just by choosing paper-free billing. That means no more waiting for your bill to see who you've been calling when, as well as how much each call cost.
View recent calls up to 10pm the previous night
Keep track of the calls made from your phone
Stay in control of your call spend
No more shocks when your phone bill arrives"
I thought it was worth signing up for but I'll look again and see what you found.
Must be worth it (for island) just for a bit of peace of mind.0 -
I can see how it's confusing though.
I went here:
http://www.bt.com/paperfreebilling/recentcalls/
And under "Why go paper free?" it says:
Only paper-free customers will be able to see recent calls online. So why not reduce the amount of paper in your home and help the environment at the same time?
It's easy, convenient and puts you in control of your bill. What's more, it's free.0 -
It is confusing!
(They would prefer you to have paperless only)
But they definitely allow both - I have them!0 -

I think, after reading this, we should all have them!
