Since the first TV was invented the price of TVs has been dropping.
You can hold off and get most technological items cheaper in a year.
If you need a TV now its just a load of scary drivel.

lol, funniest thread for a while
Do people actually run out and buy TVs because they fancy an upgrade, or because they need a new TV?0 -
The worrying thing is (Ringo), loads of people do just fancy an upgrade. A while back I was all set to buy a LCD as I'm pretty fed up with the huge, heavy and clumsy CRT we have. I fancied setting a slim TV above the fireplace. Common sense prevailed though - there's nothing wrong with the one we have!"...Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,

We're the same. We have an excellent SONY CRT which we bought on ebay when we were students. It works fine. We would love an HD TV. But we only rent our house at the mo and are looking to buy 2010. It would be silly to get an HDTV before we move to somewhere more permanent, as you never know if it will fit into the new place or not. So unfortunately for now, common sense is prevailing! Mind you, if it broke....:rolleyes:Becoming Mrs F 7/11/09 :happyhearMember 265 of Murphy's No More Pies Club - 11lb/42lb:dance:I will look good in my wedding dress, I will I will!0 -
Our 21 year old son wants us to replace our CRT, but it has got a few years in it yet (if only to annoy him). We are actually waiting for the OLED with far superior response rate, colour and size, to LCD. They are roughly at the point LCDs were about 5-6 years ago (I think) and I think will be reasonably priced in about 5 years, and I believe our CRT will last that long! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

If it still works then why change it, you could save your money to buy 1 when it eventually does do0

I thought there was a chance that new TVs could at least hold their price or even cost more as a result of exchange rates and the cost of importing?
As for HD content being "widely available and free by mid next year" as the OP said, where is the proof of that? As things stand, you really need Sky to get the best from HD.
If you're on Freesat, Cable etc, right now you only really have BBCHD. ITV HD is barely a channel yet and there's nothing to suggest that will change by next summer.0 -
