someon knows nothing but talks like they do , probably a mid exec with buzzwords and brown lips.
economic downturn - lower output = higher prices resulting from reduced output from all suppliers to the manufacturer , end item price per unit stays high for everyone. Thus the end item stays atrificially high in price.Tech slows as a result also and unit sell life is extended making price cuts longer in between to maximise lower profits.
dsg willl downsize , they are now heading towards online only...leaving dross on the high street for the supermarkets to shift to those with no net.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

"someon knows nothing but talks like they do , probably a mid exec with buzzwords and brown lips"
hehehe.
The post was for tv's that were, and still are, going to sale at this moment in time. Lower output does not necessarily mean higher cost. Think about that for awhile. For Tv's, well, TV's are not a necessity, they're a luxury...
Also, no one will pay extra for existing tech which is already out there and was cheaper.
NEW Tech and NEW Tv's will probably cost more.
Glad you understand the possible DSG future status.
Totality.
Ill try me best to get back to you on HD content for next year0 -

Do people actually run out and buy TVs because they fancy an upgrade, or because they need a new TV?
They really do buy TVs because they fancy an upgrade! There have been *loads* of tvs offered on our local freecycle list recently - perfect working order, lots of them with 28" or larger screens, and almost all of them being given away because their owners decided to buy a bigger/flatter/fancier model.
Then again I just replaced a perfectly functional microwave with a combi grill/convection/microwave oven, which I suppose is not very different - although certainly a lot cheaper!0 -

Why do you keep spouting sh1te like you know something when you are clearly guessing what is going on, trying to sound clever and not actually saying anything of any substance

When budgeting, as well as a stand and possibly speakers don't forget the warranty. It can be included in the price by some retailers (Costco), cheap for others (Richersounds) and overpriced in others (DSG), and can make a huge difference to the total you pay.
I'd like to purchase a new TV in the near future, probably a 42" and more than likely a Panasonic plasma, with built in freesat for the HD channels. Without the HD channels it isn't worth buying a HD TV. Our current Panasonic CRT gives a better picture than most LCDs I've seen in the high street, but as that is migrating to the top floor we need another to replace it.
I've been browsing the sales and not yet tempted, I think I'll see if you're right wapow. If you're not I'll [strike]hunt you down[/strike] get over it.
Oh and some news (good for DGS loathers), there shares are down to 17.5p. :rotfl:

I bought a 37" a week ago and haven't regretted it yet! The improvement in viewing pleasure only serves to make wish that I had taken the plunge earlier. As for prices, they are going up, purely down to the poor valueof the pound. I have a friend who manages a Electrical store and showed me the new trade price lists for Sony, JVC, Panasonic and others. A 30% hike is on the cards my friends.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Absolute twaddle from Wapow.
Price increases are on their way now. sony, for example have increased their prices to the uk by 11%. Manufacturers are not charities and despite what the buffoon thinks cannot afford to ignore the huge drop in the strength of sterling against the yen, dollar and euro.
Shoppers should take advantage of the genuine reductions available now as to ignore them is like the old saying " looking a gift horse in the mouth".
The current situation has been brought about by production and retailers purchasing being based on last years record sales figures, which have not been replicated this year.
Wapows lack of knowledge of basic lack economics is only matched by his ignorance of the emerging technologies in the tv market, a simple internet search will show how distant OLED and Laser TV are from the mass-marketplace.
Listen to him at your peril.0 -
"Coupled with the fall in currency strength and economic climate etc you'll be seeing 50" sets regarded as high end now, go dirt cheap by mid feb."
the fall in currency strength reduces the cost of goods????
huh!?!?
sound advice indeed.0 -
I'm sticking with my 32" CRT. It's got an anti-theft device built in....it weighs about 2 tons."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0

LOL! That and if it goes wrong there is usually another working CRT on Freecycle somewhere, so not so heart breaking if it breaks down- you don't even have to pay breakdown costs that way:rotfl: ! (And if you are lucky, a techno-loving person will accept when you offer your broken TV on freecycle)0
