    - future-proof yourself.

I "future-proofed" myself when I bought an Intel 486 based PC with VESA graphics back in 1994. Manufacturers have to keep pushing new products to stay in business. Salesmen however need to shift boxes to stay in a job so by telling you your purchase is "future-proof" helps them secure a sale.

Prices seldom go up (dig out any old computer mag or electronics mag from 4-5 yrs ago and compare what your money would buy then to what it will buy now).

I'm waiting til cornea and cochlear implant TVs arrive then I'll wait til they drop below £200. ;)

Yes! At uni I had a guest lecture from some guy at Sony.

His main point was to tell us that their internal business goal is to make their own products obsolute before their competition do.

That pretty much somes up the technology market, and is why you'll always buy just before some new landmark tech is released. It will always happen. Get used to it.

If you're buying an expensive TV get a Full HD one not HD Ready - future-proof yourself. Full HD will give noticeable picture improvements on 42 inch plus TVs with blue-ray films and other HD stuff.

Don't bother because none of the broadcasters are ever likely to broadcast at that standard.

Actually in the UK they all are, I believe.
  • Case in point.

You buy Full HD at 1080p. Next year out comes SuperHD / UltraHD.

Its a staggering 4320p, puts 1080p to shame.

BBC successfully broadcast at this resolution to Amsterdam last year according to that wiki page, using their own codec (Dirac):

Not due for 6 years though, and will no doubt be very pricey when it first comes out. You'll also need a HUGE TV to get much benefit (50 inch or so probably)
  • yeah - but still.. the point is every technology has a very limited period when its at the peak/forefront.

Theres always something gonna come and dislodge what you buy. It'll probably be LED tvs before UHD tvs.. but you get the point.

There's no point worrying about missing out on the next great thing.. the whole point of advertising to make you believe you're missing out somehow - if you fall victom of it, you will just believe that your viewing experience is in some way lacking..

    LEE_S

hiya lee. if youve ben following the (popular amongst average consumer) sony kdlv40v4000 or whatever, then you'll find this tv has been climbing up and down in price, when stocks are running low they put the price up to about 599-699, yet when they have them instock by a few numbers (seems to be 7 and above) they put it down to 499. this tv has been out of stock in most places and those that did have it (albeit low numbers) had the price too high.

iv just checked today and one of the retailers has them instock and back to 499. (electrosaver - instore only - web price is higher for some silly reason,)

the LG you talk about, i kinda figured that it was a very good tv to drop so low, but i was put off by the couple of reviews i read as im one of those people that really enjoys a thorough test of all the functions of particular appliances and somethings about this tv put me off.
personally anything above 40" id look into plasmas than lcd's however this lcd has had good reviews by alot of customers so its just a waiting game really. not sure when it will be back, but hold out, keep searching for the tv and soon someone will have them in stock at the same price it was during xmas. to be honest you'll probably be in for a treat this year. anyway ill keep my eyes peeled and post here if the deal is available
  • Wapow you quoted

"I use an old analogue tv! The only reason id get HD is for gaming or when varied content is freely available, but im a pc gamer so no need yet!"

How do you do all your comparisons and make your opinions when they are all based on you and your old anal ogue TV?

And so you know i bought the 32 inch Sony from JL for £329 inc 5 year guarantee and had it delivered yesterday and it is superb , i mean really good

I am still not sure what point(s) you have been trying to make apart from saying that you personally are an analyst but that prices will go down and DSG will go into administration but maybe you could summarise in a final post what your predictions are so we can close this thread

Thanks for all your opinions WAPOW but if you could write just them down and not take personal offence to everything everybody else says that may help you sound a bit more believable as opposed to sounding like my local swearing drunk village idiot

BUT i guess the fact that you stlll have an old analogue TV explains this whole thread,

When will you buy a new TV and how long will you wait

DO you still have a Morris Minor and still wear your school shorts, no need to upgrade as they might get cheaper
