HELP! Ebay and Paypal trouble-and at xmas!

Hi i'm hoping someone on here may be able to help me.

In a nutshell: Yesterday I bought a pair of GHD's on Ebay from a what seemed to be a British seller with reasonable feedback.

Today the listing disappeared. I contacted ebay through the live help and apparently they'd pulled the listing as the person did not list the item (it looks like their account was hacked into). Ebay didn't bother to contact me and let me know that!!!

Anyway, I checked my Paypal account and the money has gone out to a person with a Chinese name and an unverified address.

Following Ebay's advice, I called Paypal but because Ebay haven't contacted them to notify them of fraud, they won't do anything about it.

I contacted Ebay again but they weren't interested. I contacted the bank and because it was a debit card, it seems there isn't anything they can do.

I've opened a dispute through Paypal...

Is there anything else I can do?! Has anyone else experienced this???:(

I'd be grateful for advice!!

I thought that if you paid by paypal you had no worries about a refund?

That said I've never got anything back off paypal on the 2 occasions I was ripped off.

  • Can you escalate the dispute right away? Sounds like the listing was dodgy and ebay pulled it off, but unfortunately it was too late for you. Wait until the outcome of the dispute to see what paypal says.

I would advise you to post on the Ebay forums as well, there are some really good guys out there, and you might get some more advice on there too.

    Good luck.

    I will thanks.

I escalated the claim right away but Paypal are still insisting on contacting the seller...which is obviously a waste of time as there is NO seller. Someone's account was hacked into and it's a criminal. Ridiculous!:mad:

I was ripped off 2 years ago because somebody had had strikes, I wasn't protected or something...anyway Paypal managed to wriggle out of paying up. This time, it said on the listing that I was fully protected. The whole thing is ridiculous. What happened to Paypal being on the buyers' side?!

I know it is all too late but always pay through a credit card (if you have one) through paypal as you have the insurance from that .

try opening dispute right away.Hopefully he did not take money out of account in time so you may be ok. Paypal is rubbish. I hope you get your money back but i dont hold out too much hope.
Ebay are not much good either. I wrote complaining about money they said i owed but i didnt and they wrote an email back to mrs "happy" ! cheeky so & so's.

The daft thing is I actually meant to use my card and clicked the debit card. Unfortunately I think they've taken the full amount....

Ebay are awful too. Apparently it's nothing to do with them as "Paypal is a separate entity"-well we know that's a load of rubbish!

If they bothered to communicate with each other I might not be in this mess!

Mandles is only giving advice fuzzgun, not having a dig at people like you and nwt83 living off state benefits.

Nobody accused Mandles of having a go Andy. Your comment about state benefits doesn't even make sense?!
