I am a scrapbooker but with funds tight this year and a couple to make I have found that if you make the front and back cover from thick card, punch holes with a regular hole punch and use book rings to hold it together it does just as good a job. You can decorate the book rings with ribbon/fibers to add extra interest and colour. if you're anything like me and keep all off cuts/small pieces you could put them to good use.......if none of this makes sense please let me know and I'll see if I can find some pictures of one's I've already made!!!
Would love to see some pictures!
Where would you buy book rings?0 -

Sorry only just scrolled up and saw this! The reindeer food has hundreds and thousands/sugar strands mixed with oats (breakfast cereal) - the first batch i did had glitter in until i thought about the environmental aspect of it
The stamp is from Crafters Companion and was part of the christmas set last year - theres a link on my blog to the CC site but i will see if i can find a direct link to the actual stamp setWin £2012 in 2012 challenge 0/2012

I bought several books over the years that have had the same done to them but with chunky sisal twine holding them together. they look great when decorated to a 'natural' theme and might be easier to get hold of than metal rings.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Just been and bought the wood, they cut it for free also, to make some of these for christmas decorations
It is vinyl stuck on the wood. My daughter is cutting the vinyl for me. Some blocks have all 6 sides with vinyl on but I might do 5 and put a felt square on the bottom. What do you think.
She is also cutting some vinyl similar to this idea so I can make bedside light as presents http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_430xN.83129817.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php%3Flisting_id%3D28749138&usg=__1Z5i8HLqk3sBpOtFGLGONSB93_k=&h=393&w=430&sz=32&hl=en&start=5&tbnid=5hBk6Ui2OOnzpM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=126&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvinyl%2Bnight%2Blight%2Bglass%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den last christmas I did nativity ones with battery powered lights but as these are to be bedside lights I will use mains fairy lights.
Aren't these fab http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_430xN.83129817.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php%3Flisting_id%3D28749138&usg=__1Z5i8HLqk3sBpOtFGLGONSB93_k=&h=393&w=430&sz=32&hl=en&start=5&tbnid=5hBk6Ui2OOnzpM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=126&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvinyl%2Bnight%2Blight%2Bglass%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den
Hopefully my daughter will have time to cut one similar to this for me http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.42757727.jpg It's all new to her and she has a 1yr old plus lives in US so needs to allow time for it to be postedNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
ebaybaby - you can buy book rings from ebay or any good craft store. The beauty of them is that you can get different sizes.
ariarnia - good idea, hadn't thought of that one.
I can't find any photos of the ones I've made before, laptop probs recently, but as soon as I do I will post.Natwest Card 27.06.10 (reduce every month) £267.63
