Pooky, those unhappy gingerbread men are amazing! I was going to make little felt gingerbreads for our tree or as a garland this year (one of the million things on my To Do list :o) but if you don't mind I'd like to steal your idea and do these instead? Can I ask what you used for the buttons and the eye?

I used some little metal paper fasteners I had - they were just the right size.

I hung some upside down by their feet too - my mother thought they were really in bad taste but my daughters loved them and they've ended up all round the house hanging from pictures and bookcases. I had loads of requests from their friends for them.

  • I showed my boyfriend and he thought it was a bit awful too but I think they're funny :) Temped to make one for my boyfriend's sister, she has nightmare before christmas decs on her tree so she'd probably appreciate it!

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience at doing craft fairs? What do you sell? How do you work out prices?! How much stock should you have per fair?

Sorry for all the questions, I've been offered a stall at a market in December but wont say yes until I have more of an idea of what I'm letting myself in for!! If I think its possible I'll attempt to book some more.

I have a few ideas but any help would be really appreciated :j

So far I've thought of sock monkeys, felt food, knitted mug cozies, mini scrapbooks (just decorating the cover), snowman soup....

I have done craft fairs regularly for some years but must admit due to the downturn they have been very quiet of late, however I will try to answer your questions:

I sell my own handmade gifts and cards, stock levels well that depends on the size of the fair and the length of time. If you are doing a day fair you would need enough to fill your table plus maybe same again for under table stock and to replenish once sold, you can always leave some in your car so you don't go in laden.

Float of about £50.00 in change, a cheque stamp if you take cheques.

You would also need to check with the organisers as some will only alllow one type of craft per stall, so if you do jewellery that is all you can take etc.\

The first fair is scary but fun at the same time.

    Good Luck

ali - just googled 'knitted mug cosy' and several sites came up. This one has a tutorial with it. Hope that helps
