  • Afternoon all,
Been lurking on this thread since last Christmas, but I'm now officially starting to plan for this year. My friends think i'm mad thinking so early, so glad to see some of you are already crafting! Reassures me i'm not mad! But these things take time to make and nearer Christmas I knwo i'll be working fulltime and doing a degree part time so if I could make most things before I start back at uni it would be better.

I have 12 brown flannels and pipe cleaners ready for the flannel reindeers. Have seen a few more flannel ideas for the grown ups too. I bought some lovely cellophane cones ready for my snowman soup this week on Ebay. Also got some glasses with cartoon characters on cheap in the charity shop, thinking I can make some pots of gold with them.

Mary - you mentioned trying out a flannel snowman on a gravy tub looking more like an owl? Would you be able to tell me what you did. I know someone that would love an owl! And it just happens to be her birthday in June.

How exciting, and a great excuse to do lots of crafting without feeling guilty!

moneysaver - I didn't actually finish it but I wrapped a cream flannel around the tub, lodged some goggle eyes on it and arranged a piece of material around the top like a hat -that's when OH said it looks more like an owl and he suggested popping some felt feet on the bottom of the tub and cutting some felt wings out in cream and a triangle for the beak-colour of the hat wouldn't matter -it would just be a sort of 'snowy owl'.
Might well do one for my friend -she lives near a wood and is always talking about her' friendly owl' that seems to have made his home these.
Could fill the tub with snowball type sweets (bonbons or white marshmallows or white maltezers or even get some drk. brown sweets for 'owl poo'.................lol

Managed to pick up some little round white bath bombs from one of the charity shops this morning (unwanted pressie so still in cellophane) -so thats another idea to put inside it.
    Hope that helps:j

    Hiya All,

A serial lurker here, but I just wanted to drop a note to say how inspiring you all are.

I haven't made one of these but this year I was mother of the groom and I took the following:

1 Sandwiches, sausage rolls and something (non alchy) to drink (my mob are not at their best when they're hungry and the wedding breakfast was a long time after ordinary breakfast!!!!)

2 Aspirin and some stronger pain killers

    3 Tissues

4 Sewing kit and extra safety pins

5 Brush, comb, hairspray, makeup etc

6 A couple of pairs of spare tights

7 Would have taken hat pins had it been windy

Luckily very little of this was needed but safety pins and aspirin were called for - and the food was fallen upon as a life saver!!!

It will be my turn to be mother of the bride in 2009 so I shall watch out for any other ideas posted!!

    Happy New Year to everyone.

Many thanks susan 946 for mentioning this idea, albeit a while ago! I've used your post as inspiration :o and have made a small hamper for a friend of mine.
Not being involved in the wedding itself I found it a little trickier but I've put the following in mine:
    • Tissues
    • Lint Rollers (she has two cats that shed readily!)
    • Plasters (for those wedding shoes that typically rub)
    • Confetti
    • Aspirin
    • Alka Seltzer
    • Mints
    • Sun Cream (If it's anything like this weekend, they'll need it!)
    • Sewing Kit
    • A fold up brush
    • Eye Cream (For the night before, when you can't sleep and for the night after for all the tears)

I got a cheapy little wicker basket in the Dunelm sale, and pink crepe paper that was in the sale at Hobbycraft - it was obviously a gift that was meant to be!

Many thanks again to all of you for such inspiring ideas,

I've only just found this wonderful thread and you guys are so frickin talented :T

I've had an idea to make an apron for my mother and sister this Christmas where the front panel will be one of my grandmother's favourite recipes in her own handwriting enlarged and reproduced. I think I need some kind of printer paper than can be ironed onto the fabric so I'm looking into that at the moment.

Coxy and Maria - you both live nearish to me, I'm in Woolwich. Do you go to the Hobbycraft in Crayford?

Susan - thank you for the wedding ideas, I'm maid of honour next year for my best friend and am going to put together a bag of emergency bits and hadn't thought of a couple of those, thank you.

Just to let you know, I've posted on Mel's occassion planning thread about the whisk you a merry Christmas present idea (move the spokes from an ordinary whisk and put wrapped sweets inside them). I found red Christmassy coloured spoked whisks in Morrisons similar to this one, except the Morrisons handle is black. I don't know how much they are but they are Morrisons' own brand so I doubt they'd be much.

Great idea. Have added it to my X-mas list on things to make.

Ah well - at least you are closer to Nugent!! Yes MrT deffo like an airport lounge - everything in that shop EXCEPT a haberdashery department - tut tut :rotfl:

Just been making a list of notes for Xmas pressies. My neice is off to uni in September so am thinking of a 'student hamper' for her, with emergency food aid theme! Will top up with some treats too.

Also thinking of having a go at knitted tea cosies. Bit ambitious I think but will give it a go.

Bet nobody did any crafting today what with the sunshine....

Cheap and easy pressie to do:

Cobweb Chaser (least thats what I call it...........lol)

http://www.allfreecrafts.com -not sure this link will work -anyway if you go on there, click the turqoise tab along the top that says Free Craft Projects, then on the list that comes up, click Homewarming than scroll down to 'Garden Glove cobwebber'

    On the same site:
    http://www.allfreecrafts.com/mothers...h-wrapped-soap

Its under the Mothers Day section but would be lovely as a little added christmas pressie.
