OS Daily Boxing day 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Boxing Day!! This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning. Hope you all had a good Christmas and got everything you wanted from Santa.
Boxing day often seems like such a let down after the big day and in most cases, back to normal... At least this year the supermarkets are closed for today as well.
Well they are down here. This time last year I was in Busch Gardens Florida. No such luck today.
Our USA friends called last night from their Wisconsin home and said there was 2-3 feet of snow and minus 15 or so. Nice!
Turkey dinner went OK, Friends and family Gobbled that up in fact everything owrked out just fine.
I thought Christmas TV was a bit rubbish, I had to scratch about through Sky looking for something Christmassy to watch and not finding much.
I did not spend any money yesterday either!!! Well, Hope you all had a good one.

Cheers

    Morning :hello:

Me and mr tru stopped for a few mins at noon on Christmas Eve to toast a couple of people who we’ve never met, it felt really special

Yesterday was a bit different than our usual Christmases. The teen-trus went out at 6pm for ‘a couple of hours’ on Christmas Eve. They staggered back in at 6.30am yesterday morning, went to bed and stayed there til 3pm  We decided that we’d carry on as planned, they’d be the ones missing out :p

Soooooooo we opened stockings, pulled crackers, let off party poppers and ate oranges and smarties before we got out of bed. My mum and dad came round with pressies for the kids (shame they didn't actually get to see them ) and we had a couple of drinks with them. Then we piled everything into the oven and curled up on the sofa to watch a film. We didn’t have dinner til 3.30pm - we were secretly hoping the kids would be in a fit enough state to actually eat it (though we didn’t tell them that) :shhh: master tru managed to eat half, miss tru ate nothing. Presents were finally opened at 4.30pm :D

So, on to the important stuff. What presents did you all get? :D I’ve got
    - Champagne from my brother and his GF
    - Choc from a friend
    - Body Shop coconut gift set from master tru (just used it and I feel fab)
    - Choc from Father Christmas
    - Gardening diary from mr tru
    - Eating For Victory book from miss tru
    - Body Shop make up bag from master tru, filled with little pots of creams. He told me it’s not a real pressie, it was the free thing from a 3-for-2 offer and he thought he’d wrap it for me :D
    - And – half a Kenwood Chef (the other half belongs to mr tru) I’ve been itching to use it since we bought it. I gave it pride of place in the kitchen yesterday, mr tru said “what are we going to make, then?” I said we have so much food, it’d be a waste to make anything at the mo and he agreed. So we poured water into the bowl and watched it slosh around :rotfl:

The first of 2 loads is in the washing machine, I’ve sorted the rubbish from the recycling from the compostable and now I’m going to epilate my legs :D

  • Good Morning All & Happy Boxing Day

So glad lo came Mioliere, that must have been the best Christmas present ever.

I did well myself, Take That CD, Daniel Craig Book, a beautiful handbag and a bracelet. Got the usual terrible stuff from MIL but those presents will be recycled or ebayed. I dont mean to sound ungrateful but she has known me for 20 years and still doesnt put any thought into what she buys - its nothing to do with money in fact I would rather she wouldnt waste it. At least she bought the kids some things they wanted.

Today have my sister and her kids around for lunch - bubble n squeak and cold meats. My Mum and Stepdad are coming later and my Dad & Stepmum will pop in on the way home from spending Xmas with her son. They will come late and as soon as she gets though the door will be making hints about going home. Unfortuntely my Stepmom appears to hate me and my children but we put up with her for my Dads sake although he doesnt seem to realise. My Stepdad is brilliant though thankfully. Sorry to be a moaner but she really does upset me.

Need to jump in the shower then start sorting the food, oh will hoover and wash the floors for me. Have to iron the clothes I am wearing today also. The ironing pile is ginourmous.

Love the food today - cold meats and salad and cheeseboard.

Going to have a quick surf, cant beleive how many emails for Sales I have got - will try and avoid them.

    Have a great day.

Hi all and happy Boxing Day. We had a brilliant day yesterday - there's nothing better than having the family all together, is there? I went to bed really tired but very happy. Dinner was a great success; will be carving the rest of the turkey today and having some for dinner. I'll try Jamie Oliver's turkey and leek pie tomorrow but today will just be cold cuts with salad, followed by lots of choccies.

Hope everyone is feeling well and able to relax now that the hard work is over.

    Have a great day.

    Morning all,

We had a lovely day yesterday, we went round to my sisters, but I cooked with the help of my bil, it was so easy, I had made the leek and cauli cheese, sweede and carrots and gravy the day before, oh had peeled the suds, which he ran round to sis in the morning, and I cooked the turkey and pork here in the morning, and took it round to sisters to carve. So when we got there we just cooked the sprouts and more leeks and heated the rest and assembled voila :T , nice and easy. We then opened presents, I got loads of nice goodies, a pandora bracelett from OH, I have been wanting one since Penny penguin, mentioned them on here, so thanks penny :T , my one is animals, and i need to make a wish list of the charms I want :D , I also got perfume x 2, jumpers, socks a bracelet and beautiful wrap from sis, and lots of other lovely things.

Someone then made the mistake of putting the TV on, and we sat around watching that for the rest of the day  , I would much rather not put it on at all, and play games or even talk to each other  .

Still it was a nice day, and today we have sis and bil, and mum and dad coming for lunch, but its nice and easy, cold meat, mash peas and pickle, and something veggie for sis and bil, puddings will be left overs from yesterday, and there are plenty of chocs and booze left

I have a wash on, and will do another in a while, as its a really nice day here,
I NEED to get out for some fresh air today, so we will take little dog to the beach for a run later.

Oh well better get on, have good days all xx
