Cheapest car to run

Whats the all round cheapest car to run today?

Thinking about insurance, tax and fuel economy. Maybe one of those new small Citron's?

I also like the new small diesel engines that you can run on veg oil in the summer, what are the cheapest diesel cars today?

have a look at cars by tax band - not only are they more fuel efficient, the tax is also lower.

    £35 for a band b diesel, and >60mpg, rather than £170 and 50 mpg (?) for a band c?

you wont find a new car that you can run on veg oil, you can run some one biodiesel, but thats a differernt thing all together
  • Thanks for the replys, yes something in band B £35 for a band b diesel, and >60mpg, What are the best ones? The fiat panda is very cheap I noticed, even nearly new ones are going very very low prices at auctions.

What are other sugestions in this band B?

As for running on veg oil there are no cars that can run without any modding (except Transit vans) but its not hard to buy a kit off ebay so you can run even modern diesels on veg oil but only in the summer. In the cold weather it gets thick and will clog up injecter pump.

A 1.4 TDCi 02 onwards Fiesta is £35 a year and definately recommended.
Vegetable oils ruin direct injection diesels.
  • Daughter, student, just over 21, uses Peugeot 107(Aygo/C1.) Currently £35.00 tax, 65 gallon, 275 insurance. Be difficult to beat that for a new car. Travels regularly M1/M11/M25 with no problem, looks good as well (car that is)
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

This is nonsense! Do some research on the difference between veg oil and biodiesel, and the differences between various injector pumps.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

    i suggest som research.

ive run it in loads of cars without mods, putting veg oil on any high pressure disel will mean dead car.

Pug 106 Diesel I'd guess. One from 10 years ago, could probably run it for nothing apart from fuel if you bought a good one.
    Happy chappy
