I am willing to host navigator 5 however I am not sure about copyright issues

I would guess that the copyright owners might not be sending you flowers and chocolate. ;)

Or if you are *really* unlucky, aneamic blokes in expensive suits who refer to you as "The party in the first part".

LOL - I suspect that *would* break site rules!

After all, this is Money SAVING expert, not Money STEALING Expert!

I don't really see what the problem is with having version 4 - can't you just use this:

    http://www.navigating.de/Medion4_en/POI/Index.htm

    if you want POI?

I have just got back from somerfield, I took my 4.4 back and now how the v5, the difference is amazing, even bits that were missed off the old maps.

Anyway, I bought POI-Warner, do I not need this now I have paid £20 for it?????

Hang on, let me get this right....

    The upgrade here:
    http://www.navigon.com/site/uk/en/service_support/download_center/category/30/device_type/pda/86

    (5.0 to 5.1 for windows mobile 2003)

will not work if you have version 5.0 on your PDA?

    You'd have to buy it?

That's right. The 5.1 is the "Navigon Navigator 5.1". The versions we all have (except those with 4.4) is "MEDION Navigator 5.0" - Both are made by the same company and I suspect are simply branded for PDA manufacturers to bundle with their hardware.

Ridiculous I know, but until such time as Medion release an official update -
    we're stuck with either

    a) Original 5.0 navigator
    b) Buying Tom Tom 5
    c) Obtaining Tom Tom 5 by other means

I have the Medion with Navigator 4.4 and POI-Warner installed, I was going to play around with TomTom but I have heard that the Navigator maps are better, the only reason I can see to change to TomTom would be the ability to change the voices.

People also claim to have Navigator 5 on thiers, I am interested to know if they picked up a micromaxx one as apposed to a medion one.

    Shaun

I've got the micromaxx and it has navigator 5.

Having read through the posts it seems that it's a great piece of kit, but in order to get speed camera poi we need navigator 5.1 and that costs 79 euros is that correct.

Has anyone found the speed camera stuff and european maps, please.

I posted the very same question over on the pocketgps site....and was was recommended this site : http://www.amngps4.wanadoo.co.uk/index.htm

There is a link off to POI Warner site - have a look round there - plenty to read (still doing it myself) - looks as if there is different versions for Navigator 4 and 5.........
What should I put in here that won't upset people.........

I got the micromaxx yesterday. Today I found in the system settings how to disable the 4 front buttons from Windo$e functions (I left the mini-joy, it's less nudge-prone) and re-assigned the side button to fire up the satnav. I also disabled the auto-boot from those buttons and the card slot.

I managed to dim the display (for night driving) but the satnav prog seems to overide the system setting and switch back to full brightness. It's a pity there's no 'return' icon on the 'in progress' nav screen (is it a long tap or short tap now?) otherwise it works OK. Parallel adjacent roads seem to be a problem but I suppose it's the same for all satnavs unless the resolution is much smaller? It works OK walking too, pity about the 'fixed' LiIon battery but I assume it'll still work from external power after 2 years (or however long the battery lasts).
  • Just had this response from the POI-Warner support team regarding compatability with medion navigator 5.0.

"Actually you are right by a failure of Medion the Medion Navigator Version 5.0 is not supported by the POI-Warner , you will need some version above or an version 1-3.x or 4.x.
Actually I do not know any page where to download the medion Navigator 5.0-5.1 or 5.2 update medion actually said that there is no update , please ask them .
I`m very sorry to give you such a bad answer, please excuse me .
POI`s are fully compatible with the Medion Navigator 5.0 you can use them I think in the Medion Navigator but our great software will not run and can`t warn you and you can´t manage them .
For viewing POI´s and receiving them please ask our partners at wWw.poihandler.com (info@poihandler.com)
If you have any open questions please let me know , and we will properly find a solution."

Have sent a mail back asking if they intend to produce a compatible version some time in the future. I'll let you all know.

  • There is a totally free poi uploader which you can use to upload speed camera sites (from pocketgps) and thousands of other poi's but at the moment i havent got around to testing it yet as it took me awhile this afternoon trying work out how it works etc.I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what happens.
  • Apologies for my last post - following Haymish's post I rechecked the POI Warner site and it does say 5.1

    sorry!!!!!
