amethystcash wrote: »I'd like to join in please. I liked the idea of the four categories, so here are my 2009 plans:
Home - clear out remains of uncle's house clearance from garage and dining room; declutter rest of house - ruthless!
Personal - stop being so insular and reconnect with friends and family
Financial - continue with savings plan started this year thanks to MSE
Health - don't allow my medical condition to control my life like it has this year
Each of these requires detailed plans to achieve - I'll update as I go along.
So much for "I will complete this challenge" - I forgot I even signed up for it - OOPS!
Anyway, even though I've not updated on the forum, I've still been making inroads into my challenges. I still have to document in detail what I want to achieve.
Financial - getting rubbish rates on my ISAs so going to convert to bonds with higher interest at the weekend. Been looking for a home for our longer term savings but reluctant to move to fixed rates and tie up to what aren't great rates for a year or 2. Looking for a high interest instant access account to put it in for now and watch to see how interest rates develop. Hope they will start to go up - once that happens we're looking for term bonds or NS&I (although I know people say the rates for them aren't great)
Home - we've made a start on clearing out. I made a list of hotspots and we're tackling them one at a time. It's been a struggle as DH has been doing a lot of overtime so not been around enough to help with this.
Friends etc - nothing to report here.
Medical - think I've taken a bit of a step back here but I'm blaming it on the 1-year anniversary of me becoming ill just making me a bit sad. I've had words with my boss about developing my job and we're trying to do positive stuff with hobbies, sports and just getting out more, so I don't have that much time to sit about and feel sorry for myself. Also got Paul McKenna self help book and Louis Hay Affirmation Kit - not sure how that will work out, I'll let you know.
OK enough update for now. Off to do some work on the challenge.
PS - Decided that one of my major goals for this year is I MUST STOP EMOTIONAL SPENDING - just spent over £200 on a watch then felt so guilty for wasting money I had to take it back!MFW Challenge (Tgt Date Nov 07): ACHIEVED FEB 07!
Mthly Savings (Tgt 60% of Inc): Average 41.67% (but we have just paid for a new kitchen!)
Savings Goal £500k (Target Date 50th B'Day Nov 17): 30.41%0 -
Hiya
I've not posted for a while but i'm still keeping an eye on my challenges.....
1) Decorate the children's bedrooms - we've started 'mood boards' with everything they'd like in their rooms on the boards...they won't get it all but it's just to get an idea.
2) Research new mortgage deal and bank account - pretty sure i've decided who to do with but it's just being brave enough to jump!
3) Start buying for birthdays / christmas presents but don't pay full price for anything and wrap as I buy - this ongoing and i've bought one present for a birthday party reduced from £10 to £2.50!!!
4) Stick to the monthly budget - this is going VERY well!
5) Do my 2008-2009 tax return whilst i'm off work - i'll do this after the homework
6) Do homework for course by 14th January - completed so will knock this off the next list (don't worry - i've got another one to add on!)
7) Complete coursework for cancer care diploma
8) Pay of 0% credit card by March 1st 2009 - this is on target too!
So, not doing badly...lots of work going on in the background and one completed. I'll post this and then do my new list in order of importance xx0 -
1) Complete coursework for cancer care diploma
2) Pay of 0% credit card by March 1st 2009
3) Do my 2008 - 2009 tax return
4) Decorate children's bedrooms
5) Empty attic to use as a playroom
Ongoing all year
1) Stick to budget
2) Buy for christmas/birthdays (don't pay full price - wrap as I buy).
That's it for me. xx0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
It's great to see everyone seems to be doing well.
In typical me style, I forgot to take my money to the bank!My only real task for tomorrow is to take my coppers and loose change to the bank (another £16 for savings :j ).
Well, I did rush out of the door early.
I'll get it done on Tuesday, when I am definately heading into town again.
As for the rest of my challenge:babs2008 wrote:
1) Stop taking money out of savings account - success so far
2) Triple the amount in my savings by the end of 2009 - added another £20 today.
[strike]3) Bank my cheque for £175 and put it all into my savings.
[/strike]4) Get some money bags from the bank, sort out all of my loose coppers and put them in the savings account too - will put into savings on Tuesday.
5) Get a better job I love (and hopefully pays lots) as soon as possible - still searching and applying.
6) Stick to a weekly budget - I'm managing this, though I keep spending the majority of the budget in the first couple of days
7) Money left over from weekly spend to go into a sealed pot of it’s own. Once the year is up - of the pot gets too full - it will be added to savings - ongoing.
8) Write two reviews for Bview a day - on hold (although I did write one today - every little helps and all that).
xLooking forward to the future.0 -

Ok, so confession time...... I have done nothing else on my list today
DS went to sleep for a couple of hours so I had a nap on the sofa, OH got up too late to put the Christmas stuff in the loft, so thats still sat in the nursery.... and now I;m watching trashy American stuff on the tv!
So a very un-productive day.... but guess what...? I don't care! Hehehe:rotfl:'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0
