Really glad you have a lot of sympathy for those less fortunate

You will hopefully be old one day yourself and have a disability of have a unfortunate accident and loose some limbs. Perhaps you might feel differently then

Glad no one on here can make the decision whether a BB holder is entitled to park or not, despite what peoples views getting one isnt easy task you are tested and asked how you disability effects you backed up by your doctor in some cases

You are absolutely right. What a lot of people fail to understand is that the process for getting a blue badge these days is not that easy, increasingly you have to get confirmation from your doctor or consultant that you have a disability which entitles you to a badge.

I also have an issue with people who say that the blue badge should be displayed photo-side up so that everyone and anyone can check the person in the car is the person on the badge. It opens up a whole can of worms with the possibility of people taking it upon themselves to gauge whether the person has what they consider to be a "valid" disability. These are probably people with no medical experience whatsoever but who still think they have the right to "assess" a person. Again, it is not up to Jo Public to police the badges. If there is an issue with the validity of the badge then it should fall to a person with the correct authority (such as car park security) to ask to see the photograph.

So why do disabled people get a discount in the theatre, or other attractions?

A very simple answer and fully justifiable disabled people have to fork out for carrers , special alterations to homes, cars and other every day things that cost, medicines if not in wales and that comes out of a basic amount of money given to us by the state which after you deduct the costs like gas and electricty and food there is very little left in the pot and why should we become social hermits locked away in our homes that is no way to live.

I think regardless of those individuals who think they have SO MUCH RIGHT, that they can start to assess a persons disability REGARDLESS of the fact they have badge that entitles them to MORE rights, just proves to me how far these "i cant park my car properly because I'm a mum" are prepared to go, to get that spot that little bit closer to the doors, it shows the blatant ignorance of these drivers for what they really are - jealous of a BB entitlement.

There was a time cars didn't exist, it beggars belief how all these "incapable of walking a few extra feet;" mums managed to go shopping back then. A case of "I'm entitled to that wheelchair MORE than you, because Ive got kids.

So after a couple of days the conclusion is that Badge Holders can and do and have the right to park in disabled spaces and parent and child spaces are used by a parent with a child.

Thanks for clearing that one up

Not even close, I think the thread is quoting "WHY" disabled people are MORE entitled to a P&C space than a Parent. Those who HAVE bothered to read and contribute to the thread will tell you that

Hope I helped clear that up for you

  • im reading this and finding its all a sorry story for people with the blue badges but what about us parents who need that child place for reason, my daughter is 4 and until she is 5 wont get a blue badge for me to use the spaces, so as i was told by the people who supply them, thats why these places are provided for parents with children like my daughter, one day i was out and there was a place as i went for it a elderly lady nipped in and started pointing to her badge, right i thought not worth arguing, as i parked futher up the car park i noticed her get out in high heel shoes etc she could walk better than me, i dont know why she got it, and yes could be some thing serious etc, but end of the day my daughter was still entitled to it, not much fun carring a child, who is hypo and has no awarness, and risk of lot of things going wrong etc, dont want to go into detail about her, but roll on when she can get this badge.

I didn't add that my wife is disbaled. She had a nasty accident in work.
She gets Incapacity Benefit, Industrial Injuries Benefit, Disabiltiy Living Allowance.
To put it bluntly, she is WAYYYY better off financially than when she was working.

Quite frankly, should we feel sorry for you as a mum, or for the child with the disability?, if thats the case, once you have a BB, you will also have the right to park in a disables spot AS WELL AS the RIGHT to park in a P&C spot, MORE rights than a mother with a perfectly healthy child.

Fact that the old lady went to the store in high heels, even if rollerskates is irrelevant to the FACT she has a badge that entitles her those rights to do so. In a years time from now YOU will be able to point to such a badge safe in the knowledge that with the badge, you have slightly more rights to park in a P&C spot than the parent who wants your spot.

having had small children with copious needs of the wriggly and escapy variety I adored shops with parent spaces - they were definately the places I went to simply because it allowed me to actually bend to get them into the seat with the extra bit of umph needed.

cars are wider now and ALL spaces need to be bigger but thats not going to happen.

Now unfortunately I am of the Blue Badge variety and still in my 30's. so we definately get the look when parking in a Blue Badge space.

In tesco if the disabled bays are full, we have to find somewhere else to park. simple but I would NOT take up a designated one for parents with young children as thats not what its for.

When my kids were younger tescos used to have the purple sticker that you had to display to park in those spaces. However they were not enforceable and they wouldnt call the person with the xxxxx car because you have parked in the wrong space for fear of losing their custom.

I hope the OP got on ok at the hospital with your little one and sounds like your hospital is trying with the spaces.

its always a shame when the few have to ruin what is generally a good idea.

One thought though - if the space was next to a disabled bay maybe he thought it was one too and didnt read it properly - HOWEVER should someone that cant make this difference out really be driving at all???????

good luck next time and I hope that this older man isnt back for his visit that day too :)
