As a taxpayer, I have far bigger priorities to spend my money on than this. It's been a complete waste of public money and time.

So you think anyone should be able to build anything they want anywhere regardless of the law and the council/courts should simply have turned a blind eye?

    Are you for real?

For the record he has previously had costs awarded against him.

I little common sense on this whole matter from the start wouldn't have gone amiss. Sadly, it seems to have left the building.

I assume you mean the common sense not to build a mock Tudor mansion without having gained planning permission?

Not to mention the common sense not to throw good money after bad on exhausting every possible legal avenue...

Just as well for him, really. It's a godawful pseudo-mock-retro-pastiche mess...
Not forgetting it doesn't have Building regs approval.

The windows would never have met the regulations at the time it was built, neither would the exterior doors. Its likely that much of the build didin't meet regs.

Fiddler is a chancer and a dishonest crook in building a house behind straw bales knowing it was against the law and it sums up the type of man he is. He knew the law and chose to deceive the public, the mans a scumbag. I can't believe there are people who actually feel sorry for him.

It should be taken down and he will pay for the demolition, legal costs etc. Maybe his biggest fault was that he didn't have enough brown envelopes full of "gifts" for the council planners. He's a farmer and they usually get to build whatever they like on their land because Farmers are "special".

All those who say it should be allowed to stay need to wake up and consider the legal presedent that it would set.We would see dwellings built all over the British countryside ,many of which would be death traps.

Yes, farmers are special, as they produce the food we need, rather like other large business owners are special, because they give others employment.

It's true there are allowances for farmers to erect farm buildings needed for agriculture, but not for creating dwellings. Even in-vogue wind turbines are turned down if they are judged inappropriate.

But I agree, in countries where the rules are minimal or non-existent, bad building kills people on a daily basis and in a multitude of ways, never mind the finer points of landscape amenity, which we are still fortunate enough to have as a consideration here.

Wonder if he will try to make some money by turning the whole thing into a comedy series for TV ?.

Anyway, in comparrison to Grayson Perry's monstrosity of house under construction just outside Harwich.

Wonder if Mr Fidler will apply for PP for a new roperty on the site of the old one ?. He could be very enviromentally friendly and build it out of straw bales (that would be ironic). I know if I were in his shoes, I'd be tempted to do this.

    .....

To be fair, the house is still there!
    Hopefully in 90 days.....
  • It's a fantastic house and a real shame it has to be pulled down.

The quality of build, architectural choices and eye for detail - all hand built out of his own pocket just proves that buying a new build from any of the so called "house builders" today is a shocking waste of money.

He should be allowed to keep it, purely on the charm factor.
