I was looking at the Tesco one as well, as I won a £50 voucher from them recently and wanted to use it towards a new telly.
They had loads instore at Tesco Extra in Springburn, Glasgow, and the number on the box definitely had the U. After reading about the V on here, I asked the guy if it was the same model and he thought it was a special order for Tesco, hence different lettering. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.
The ones on JL and Richer appear to be black in colour, whereas the one on display in Tesco was metallic silver.

No it's a diffrent beast - the U (I've also seen L) is bottom of the range, V - mid range and W top of the range - each range has different features.0 -
Thanks italiastar. I was on the point of ordering one of these. Is there much of a difference, as I will only be using it for watching telly (cable) and dvds. No gaming or anything. Everywhere else seems to be out of stock of the V model, and I really want to use my voucher!0

Then you have different specifications in different countries for the same model... I think they do it deliberately, to keep us mere mortals confused... :rotfl:Thanks to all who post constructively.

If you go here http://www.sony.co.uk/selector/tv-projector it will give you some idea about all of the different types of Sony Tv's. Good Luck. I have the V and its excellent.0 -
I'm not an expert, but I remember reading that the supermarket specials were budjet models - hence U. V are middle of the road and in this case I think that W are 1080P.
I personally think that the only way is to look at them - I'm quiet fussy and until I saw a new LG 1080P one last night in Tesco, I'd never seen an LCD when was even close to an old CRT set - however that's me, and you may not be so fussy or notice as much. If you generally happy with an LCD picture, then this one wont dissapoint. Remember that some shops demonstrate these in HD - normal broadcast is much worse. Also take care with your voucher as Tesco had this set £150 more expensive than JL or Comet, so your £50 voucher could cost you £100. If you've got a Tesco extra, try going to look at their display - they've got loads on show.0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
I have just been over to avforums, after I googled it and found somebody had asked the difference between the two models over there. The reply was that it was basically same model only different colour!
Italiastar - Tesco are showing it at £150 off, giving a price of £349 and with VAT back and my voucher, this would take it down to £292 or thereabouts, so not too bad really.
If I can't find the V I will probably go for this, before it's out of stock too!
Cheers all :beer:0 -

I think a big difference is that the U does not have the Bravia engine which makes a big difference to the picture. I would wait for the V model. The U model is a bargain model that the supermarkets tend to sell.0
