Old style crafters - INSPIRE ME!

Hi all, I am a keen crafter but have found in the festive period (and also being very stressed at work for the past few months) my crafting has dwindled. I'd love some inspiration from all you crafters out there - what have you been making lately? Have you made things for people for xmas?

Thanks

xx

Thank you for prodding my conscience Madge. I'm supposed to be making cross stitch inserts for clear acrylic light switch surrounds, but it's rather fallen by the wayside lately. I must get on and get them finished.

Yes you must do it! Shamefully the QVC crafting day yesterday got me thinking about it, I really enjoy it but just need to MAKE the time!

I haven't made anything especially for christmas this year but I cross stitch, knit & make clothes throughout the year. I made my Mum some lovely oven pads last year from two squares of material sewn together with an old duvet as filling. I hand sewed the last little bit after turning it all the right side out & added a loop for it to be hung up.

Ooh I did make my ds (10) a picture with a difference yesterday. I collected all the new 2008 coins from 1p to 1 pound and have stuck them on a piece of card then framed them with a cheap silver frame from Asda. It looks great and he's young enough not to break it open by December 30th :D

I shamefully have a cross stitch on the go of a blue Subaru car for the same child that I haven't picked up in 5 months  I'm hoping to get some time over the holidays, although I did go to the library yesterday to stock up on reading matter .................. ;)

I counted up how many Christmas cards I had in the house, both ends of packs from previous years and some hand made ones. I found 85 and needed just over a hundred. So I set to and made some more. then I realised that I needed some for my students at work, so made another 12. The stuff is all out still so I might make some for next year, it will seem much more fun making them with the Christmas decorations up etc etc and a relaxed time off work!

I joined a sewing club a while ago and we meet fortnightly, so this keeps me going a bit. I haven't made much for Christmas, but have done a new fireman outfit for my nephew, who is 4. I'm rather pleased with it, if I do say so myself.

I made food hampers (the box is creative, isn't it?), but didn't manage to make the contents. I might try and do that next year, but that would mean being really organised! Maybe I could do some items.

Been making chocolates and sweets (see my disastrous petits fours thread!) and that has been fun. Have baked some shortbread to take to my mum's as well at her request.

  • I knit throughout the year and for xmas have made socks for the kids and hubby and a lovely aran hot water bottle cover (with bottle) for BIL who is getting divorced.

I knitted a xmas pud tea cosy one year and we get it out every year at this time...now a family tradition.

I love to settle down with my knitting and at this time of year tend to do chunky jumpers.

I like to knit blankets too and as they grow you can keep your knees warm with it as you are knitting! You could use up old bits of wool for this, very OS.

You could start knitting a nativity set for next year...!

Mostly I've made jewellery this year and gave a few things as presents. The thing I'm having trouble with is making Christmas cards for my family. I've got until tomorrow at 3pm to come up with 6 cards for kids and 5 cards for adults. I'm just about to go sit down and start making them, so hopefully inspiration will strike.

I don't suppose you still know where to find the pattern or noe similar do you? It sounds like a really fun thing to knit that's not too big - the last thing I knitted was a cardigan for myself on circular needles i don't want something so big again :D

    Hi madge,

There's a great thread on the Special Occasions board that should give you some inspiration and let you see what others are doing:
