i would not be so trusting of your garage in future - they have charged you £240 to fix both CV joints yet you are still hearing the noise? not only have they not fixed the problem, but did the CV joints even need done?
  • Hi,

I have the same problem with my renault megane (2005, 2.0L hatchback dynamique). I would love to hear it if you have been able to diagnose it.

    Cheers

    hi there.

i have a Renault Megane (W reg) it has around 60 thou on the clock.

A while ago i noticed a knocking noise around the front some where, i took it to the garage and he said it was the RV joint (velocity joint) so he changed them.

its still there but i think its getting more frequant now, this only happens when i go around corners or around roundabouts and around a corner up hill.

Im wandering now if maybe its the drive shaft, not knowing much at all about cars im asking for advise here before i venture back to the garage.

would a drive shaft make a knocking noise at all, or any advice on what else the prob might be.

    Cheers
  • We have had this problem and it was the CV joint. One warning, be careful if you order the part throught the internet, we have and the wrong part was sent. It has costs us - the labour at the garage, postage to return (and it was heavy) and the company deducted another 10% for restocking. They had confirm originally that it was the right part but they deny any responsibility now. Best to let the garage get the part. We still have the clicking but the garage packed the joint with crease which has helped it temporarily.
  • I've had a problem of a grinding noise when I turn left for some time and like some of you heard that it's the CV joint, well I had one drive shaft changed (not the slightest bit of difference) but today went to see a mechanic who came highly recommended....after a 5 minute drive he reckons it's the differential bearings and (because of the cost) try to get used to the noise!
I have no reason to doubt his judgement but is there a cheaper way around this while still giving my ears a break

    CV Joint or wheel bearing!
  • The car will go slowly on full lock without as much as a click which should rule out CV's and If I take a corner with the clutch in there is still no noise which I would have thought excludes the wheel bearings, but does it?
Also what else is left....engine mounts? suspension?
    Any ideas please
  • id get the suspension top mount bearings checked

if the knocking noise happens when pulling off or stoopping 2 things you can check number 1 check bushes are not worn on the anti roll bar or on the A frames number 2 back engine mount is useualy the best to change if there is a constent knocking noise around corners then change both drive shafts second had if you know what you are doing cheaper optionif there is a vibration in the stearing try the break disc they might have a slight worp main comman things for these symptoms

  • Hi All,

Got more or less the same problem with a Megane II 2006.
The noice increases with the speed and when I turn left.
Really hate the car at 45 miles.
I will try and shift the bearing tonight see if it helps.
