Now I just feel like sh*t for letting my kids down at christmas. great.

You are not letting your kids down. By staying on reasonable terms with Steve you are helping and supporting them through a very difficult time for you all.

I was lucky that when I split with my ex the kids were grown up and made their own decisions but even that was hard and I was always moody and miserable when they spent any time with him.

God bless you at this time. x

it's kind of good when you split up when they are wee and don't have the whole "but we always do x,y,z" thing to contend with. I'm usually happy enough on my own but it is hard at xmas but then as Maz says it can be hard if you are with someone too. Just try not to beat yourself up about it and enjoy it as much as you can. x

I wasn't implying you were letting your kids down, or trying to make you feel like shiit honey... omigod, that was the last thing i would want to do....

I'm more trying to say that you might feel like going off on one and partying hard for the week until it's all over, but in reality you aren't likely to as you'll want to give your kids the best time you can....

set aside your differences with ste and concentrate on the kids, everything else will still be there for debating after the holidays...

sorry if i upset you, it really wasn't the plan...

Morning everyone... please can I spend the week in a half drunk stupor? I've woken up with the mother of all colds, I have hubby's ex and daughter coming over for dinner and my oven has just died!

Sar, things will feel odd this year, it's the first year of finding your feet as two single parents. Go out on xmas eve, have a great time and then spend xmas day gritting your teeth and smiling sweetly at Ste's. You haven't let your girls down, all they care about is having santa come and spending the day with a happy family... the latter might take a little bit of performing arts but it'll soon be over and then we can all get back to normal.

Sar, Its bound to be a difficult one this year as its the first one in your different roles as seperate families. Have a fab time on Christmas eve, like toto said grit your teeth and then just be there for the girls. You know what I doubt they will even remember it when they are old. I mean do you remember your christmas at 3 years old. Just make it fun for them on the day and you are certainly NOT letting them down so no more talk of that young lady!

Toto...what the hell are you going to cook with a broken oven?? Cheese on toast all round I guess!

I would love to do cheese on toast but the grill isn't working either  I have no idea what i'm going to do. I've a fridge full of turkey for xmas day, beef for today and buffet style stuff that needs cooking for tomorrow when we have other friends coming over. I'm pretty sure my neighbours will help out tomorrow but today and xmas day is going to be a nightmare. Hubby is phoning round trying to find someone who can fix it but I suspect we'll need a new one.

Oh well, if all else fails i've got a slow cooker and a large bottle of brandy with my name on it.

my DS was looking at pics the other day and there was one of me at about 3 with my sis in front of a xmas tree - all I could remember was that she'd just nipped me and then my dad had shouted at me for not smiling for the pic! :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm sure the rest of the day was lovely but it's amazing the pish you remember - can I remember the toys, food etc - no just my bloomin sis!:D

IA, the kids will have a great time and hopefully it won't be too stressful but it is only one day...:T

DS's last day at school today and my greatest joy is that there will be no more polo shirts to iron for a while...:rotfl: I really need to get out more!
