  • Thanks for the list of closing days. I dont get paid till Friday and that is the day ours shuts down. I don't suppose there will be much left, but worth a look. My ds has just rung and he is getting quite a lot of bargains there. Digital photo frame £40 web cams for I think he said 49p. I cant remember the rest.

    Is this a joke?

Sorry not a joke, apart from woolies our town only has a ELC which seems to be half empty yesterday :( , spent hours looking for play-dough sets for my daughter and had to drive to another town to go to Argos.

What's to wonder? They go to the Job Centre and apply to a new job...not that hard. All the staff in our local store have pulled their fingers out of their butts and lined up new jobs, and this isn't exactly a massive town...so I'm sure staff in bigger towns and cities can get into new jobs pretty sharpish.

It's not always as easy as that to find a job after being made redundant. It took me a couple of months 3 years ago and my OH had to wait almost 6 weeks to find work again when he was booted out in November. Friends of mine have had similar experiences, dont be so quick to assume its easy out there. It isnt

have to agree...it isn't that easy, my hubby was made redundant in September, hes applied for god knows how many jobs since, went to countless agencies, but nothing (bar a weeks temp work he did). it took him advertising himself on gumtree to line up a new job, which he starts next week.

not all areas will be the same as the one you are talking about .... also in the recent economic crisis ... jobs are going at a faster rate of re employment

.... the council are helping the ones in our area retrain as carers if they want ...but still wont guarantee them a job at the end of the 12 weeks

even when i went to college for 2 yr to train in childcare & education ...lucky if 6 of my class of 24 got a job within a month ...of qualifying ...at the start of the course we were assured they were crying out for staff ....most of them are working as carers or in nursing homes

hope they do find jobs soon as not just the money (wages) they loose its the friendship, daily routine, etc if they have been in the job more than a few year

I doubt the supermarkets will be hiring now, January is the quietest month of the year, I used to work in ASDA and they would try and send people home off shifts to save money :-(
