Ours closed last week and our main street looks desolate now! Woolies was the main shop where everybody seemed to congregate. You always saw someone you knew in Woolies. I got parked no problem either. I usually have to drive round in circles for ages before I get a space.
I can see it not making a big difference to cities or big towns but it seems to making an impact in our town already.0 -
have to agree, woolies was one of our largest shops taking prime place on the highstreet, if we dont get a replacement our highstreet will suffer even more:xmastree: :rudolf: :xmastree:0

Managed to grab a few Cd's and DVDs this afternoon for 90% off
Dvds included Nelly Furtado, Mika, Diana Concert and Gladiators
Even at 90% off they couldn't shift the Cliff Richard books :rotfl:0 -
I got the deluxe Mika DVD from Cannock today, I've had my eye on it for a few weeks now and was hoping there'd be one left on the last day. I went in at around 10am and all that was really left were CDs, a few DVDs, some batteries and bagged up items for £1 a bag - most bags contained a back brush, plastic soap dish and a Dylon dye along with other things lol and there were loads of these bags by the tills.
My son walked past on his way home from school and it was closed.0 -
The question is, however, do you actually want any of that stuff?
I think too many people have been suckered into buying any old rubbish because it's been heavily reduced.
In other news, I bought some till roll (4p) and a packet of Woolies carrier bags (9p) today.
I take it that`s a bit of irony0 -

Yes, I have to agree also, all the woolies around me had a great location on the high street with huge store. I hope someone will take on the sites. I've just had a look at Home Bargins website - I can't believe they do not have any sites own south. Maybe an opportunity for them !?!?0 -
I had my picture taken along with my ex work mates outside our Woolies for our local paper that closed today. Worked there for 2 odd years. It was really sad.
Work in Tesco now but the really nice thing is that our Woolies will reopen as a Tesco Express (not that we need it, we have 2 already and this is only a small town in Devon) in a few months and the whole Woolies team have been guranteed jobs there so it will be nice for them to carry on working with each other, and I'll be transfering to the new store so I'll get to work with my old work mates again.
Got a uniform and 'Store closing' poster as mementoes of my time there lol
RIP Woolworths.

Sadly didn't get to my Childhood Woolies today, great memories of that store, going in on the high street end and departing onto Redcar Seafront, laden with Pick and Mix and other stuff
Would have gone but had the flu and didn't feel upto it and wasn't sure if there would be anything left for the 18 mile drive0 -
Don't think its sickening, boastful or bad behaviour, just a person picking up some bargains in a shop about to close down.
Opps accidently thanked you Jane when I was trying to quote you - don't thank neg posts.
Thanks but don't be concerned, I'm not.
It's only Jane "Pot, Kettle, Black" Cane the hypocrite who's been a MSE Troll member for under a month.
According to the other Woolies thread (in her own words) because of a store closing "a whole pile of cheap scum has been visiting" the "nice area" she lives in.
About Woolworths she said "I don't think having to spend time in such a nasty environment is worth any type of discount."
Probably explains her dislike for people that find useful items in skips.
Apparently Jane thinks the Tesco Misprices thread is a "how to steal and cheat guide" and anyone using the information within are "cheap and sneaky people", comparing it with "pick-pocketing from the blind"
Shame that a few days later she made her own "sickening and boastful" post about a visit to Tesco where a £2 item was overcharged by £6, resulting in a £12 refund, thus getting the item FREE AND given £10 to take it away.
Then, when someone enquired about the item, she posted full details of its contents, fully described the packaging and exactly where to find it in store.
Wonder why FAGIN has just popped into my mind ?
