Judging by the other stores on closing day should be 70% at opening, 80% about 1 o'clock and 90% at about 3 o'clock

Yes that is true, i have relatives at the local branch. On Every Stores Last Day It Goes From 70% at opening 80% at Lunch 90% 3pm/Late Afternoon, Then From 5 Till 6pm its the store managers choice to work out how much stock is left to come up with a deal to shift the remainder. They May choose to box/bag things up at a deal, do your own bagful for a price. Or keep at the 90% and distribute remainder stock to a nearby store, or donate to a charity.

Yeah it's the endings to the days that seem to change from store to store. My local in Hartlepool which closed on the 27th just had 90% till closing with no special deals so I presume everything left (all bet it very little) was re-distributed but I've read quite a bit on other stores either doing the fill a bag/shopping basket/case etc for £1 or some donating to charity too so as you say it's obviously just managers discretion.

I was in Sidcup today and the staff were really nice and quite upbeat considering what they are having to put up with. In the short space of time that I was there there was a man being aggro with one of the staff.

As for Bargains I got a Singstar PS3 disc for under £10 and Meet The Robinsons DVD for £1!

I found that items were scanning cheaper than marked and also that the staff were reducing them at the tillpoint too if people were being polite.

i must have caught them at a bad time, they were fine with me , but as i said i overheard iykwim
all i brought was some bits of uniform for ds and the kids got a few pick n mix, will be sad when it gos as woolies was always handy to have

    I won, I won, I won!
Isn't it strange that a store like woolworths closing has such an affect on everyone, I read these posts and feel really upset that woolworths won't be there anymore. The kids are asking where are they going to get their toys from now - alright there's toys r us which is overpriced the entertainer which isn't great but then again there's blooming tesco!!!!

It definately won't be same on the high street....

Went to Hartcliffe in Bristol and I got black school daps (plimsolls) for 1p per pair.

My son only 1 but have bought for the future.

There was no pushing or shoving it was quite a friendly atmosphere- staff did seem to be less than happy but then who can blame them.

Good luck to any woolworths staff

I haven't read through the whole thread, but I have to agree with this post, I am 16 but woolworths is one of the shops who has always been there since as far back as I can remember .... I remember the ladybird brand aswell which again has been around forever. I went to visit my mum on sunday last week and we both agreed how upsetting it was to think of such a big company dissapearing forever and how sad we both feel about it ... I think what made it worse was today I saw for the first time a closed woolworths.

Metro centre woolworths (gateshead) was closed, the shutters were down, the sales posters gone, and they had already started to strip the insides of the shop to make it into whatever will take its place.

What is the best time to go to woolworths tomorrow as ours closes tomorrow.

depends if you want to bother queing up

i also dont see why its doom and gloom for the woolies staff as they're going to be put inot contact with the job centre and/or the new business who takes over the lease for the shop space
  • Well I've just added up what my CDs from today would have cost on play.com and it would have come to a grand total of £117.01 or if bought at the RRP a total of £266.17. To pick them all up for a tenner has certainly put a smile on my face. Think I'll go and work out what the rest from earlier in the week has saved me too now!
