Most customners are stupid.
They will have a little moan at the time, but still put it in the trolley. Then a week later they will forget the price used to be 40p cheaper and continue to shop there. You hear it all the time. "This shopping cost me £5 less last week" - yet they continue to shop and continue to moan.0 -
OH yes, I know full well what they are doing by 'rebranding'. But as a consumer you have a choice - shop or walk out. Why the bid deal, why not just buy the 'brand' and leave the stuff that has increased in price on the shelf? There are some things I will just not buy however cheap - such as cornflakes (cheap ones are nasty) and spahetti (Heinz for me, if they get any dearer I'll eat less) but there are loads of value things I buy (cheese, yogurts, pasta) as I cannot tell the difference. It is all down to personal choice at the end of the day. If you buy the rebranded stuff then the price of your shopping stays the same doesn't it? So just buy the branded stuff if it is an issue.
I do my main shop at Tesco and then do my 'top ups' at Asda and Sainsburys - but I rarely get much as Sainsburys as it is way too expensive. Apart from Chocolate spread which is 76p, LOL. If an item I need is on offer I'll stock up at that supermarket, if I knowit is cheaper elsewhere I'll get it there. I was going to get Bold last week but did not bother as I knew it was £2 cheaper at Tesco.
No one complains about the stuff that goes down in price and I've noticed a few of my basics that have gone down this week so it is all swings and roundabouts. I think the problem is that these BOGOF's encourage people to buy stuff they do not need but want.0 -
I stopped shopping there months ago - one of the reasons being this one.
TBH Asda is not much better (4 for £1.50 - when the ORIGINAL price of each item was 34p but of course then they put the unit price up to make it look good) but they are much more obvious about it so you can see it a mile off and avoid! :rotfl:
Is this Karma for killing off the little independant butchers, grocers and bakers?0 -
not really a price hike but i noticed that the hobnobs extra value double pack comes in at 80p more than just buying 2 of the single packs.
They're right next to each other on the shelves and have the price per kilo on the tags.
Being paranoid i'm wondering if this is some sort of psychology experiment."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -

HOW can they do this to us at this time of year................ eg Carrs water biscuits we 78p last week, now 98p.. this sucks....
Have these people NO MORALS ripping us off at this time of year when things are bad enough as it is????? - That's it for me - never shopping there again................:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I'm sure the highly paid and well respected shelf stackers and store staff appreciated that.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
I wonder if we asked Martin to write to the Top 4 supermarkets and give us a list of all their price increases / decreases each week if they would comply!!
My silly pet hate is the products that are over-charged by a penny from the SEL - and don't even ask me how I know! I never get it refunded, but it bugs me all the same!0 -
Maybe their costs are going up?
Sterling has fallen to record lows so anything imported costs more, 25% for anything paid in dollars (2.00 vs 1.50) and the eurozone (1.45 vs 1.08)
Their heating bills are higher, wages bills will go up and diesel went up 2p/litre behind the scenes (claim back 15% VAT instead of 17.5% on same cost)

This is one factor, if the product is sourced in the eurozone it will be costing the supermarket more. Even if it isn't the suppliers may have had to increse prices when their raw materials get more expensive.
The price for wheat, rice and other staples was increasing last year although that's likely to change with a global economic slowdown.
If it's purely on british grown, produced, packaged and processed then they are indeed ripping us off."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0
