TESCO ARE UPPING PRICES BY AT LEAST 10% - not good - i left my trolley

Options
Hey folks, I went xmas shopping to the Southport Tesco store and noticed they had actually INCREASED their prices by around 10% on a lot of products - so by the time I noticed this I mentioned it to my other half and we both agreed.......... we left the trolly (half full) in the aisle and walked out........ HOW can they do this to us at this time of year................ eg Carrs water biscuits we 78p last week, now 98p.. this sucks....

Have these people NO MORALS ripping us off at this time of year when things are bad enough as it is????? - That's it for me - never shopping there again................:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

A lot of people will be doing a months shopping due to the next pay day, mid January the supermarkets will be almost bare with customers, therefore the supermarkets are taking there greedy share now.

Bear in mind, most customers are in a fairly happy mood due to the run up to Christmas and probably won't notice the increase, yet another crafty move by the supermarkets.

went to asda last night, and notice a 40p increase on my usual jar of coffee, shocking, and were very few bogof deals on. Time to shop around some more i guess.

I noticed this too and said the same to my husband - soft cheese has doubled in price for example. BUT, we have set money aside to have a good Xmas as I am usually watching what I eat I thought I would make the most of it for a week and buy treats and not worry about the cost. I usually spend £130 on my main monthly shop and then 'top up' during the month. I've done my main monthly shop and added loads of stuff in for Xmas and it comes to just under £200 which I did not think it was that bad as I've probably bought enough food to last me 2 weeks and all the usually 'monthly shop' bits and pieces.

There are some offers on if you look though - I did mine online so maybe it is easier to find the offers when doing that - and I do get a few of the 'budget' lines as well so it is not all bad. I think I would have spent my usual monthly amount if not getting treats.

I have noticed that the usual Tesco ranges have put their prices up but there will be one of their 'brand' equivelents for the same price Tesco brand used to sell for. For example, Jam used to be 79p, Tesco jam is now 99p but the new 'brand' is 79p so I got that. I do not usually buy stuff if they are 2 for 1 unless I use them and there are not many that I buy these days as they are 'wants' and not 'needs' such as chocolates, cakes and crisps and I do not buy these anymore. Maybe this is why I did not take much notice. Bold was down by £2 a packet - usually £4.78 instead of £6.78 so I got 3 of those. One supermarket is much the same as another, I saved £6 on washing powder - it is £6.79 in Sainsbury and Asda. I saved £1.50 in toilet rolls than I would have done in S or A. It all depends on what you are buying as to whether you are saving money really.

I think it just means you are going to have to look around the shelf a little more than you are used to and see if something has been replaced by a 'brand' and get that instead. I know there are some things that you cannot swap but for things like Jam it does not make any difference. With online shopping I scroll down the page and look for prices and then compare this way, some things in the supermarket are spread around so this is harder to do. I spend less when buying online as I am not shoving stuff I do not need into the trolley either - I do spend more when go instore so I try not to unless I can help it.

Apparently some Tescos were charging £10 for home deliveries in the run up to Xmas, I paid £5. I really do not think I would have paid £10 for delivery though.

but this is Tesco just introducing a cheaper (for them) item at an existing price point and hiking the price of the existing item - more profit for Tesco on both items.

Tesco are Britain's BIGGEST price hiker :D

    This is very true.

I bet I wasn't the only one to notice the fact that - soon after they introduced their discount ranges - the prices on those items went up, in some cases twice in a week?

When these ranges were first on the shelves, I bought a discount brand pack of kitchen roll which was 99p I think, 2 weeks later it was £1.29 and then a week after that £1.49ish, which made it dearer than some 'non discount' ranges!

Do they think their customers are stupid and will just buy the same again without noticing the price hikes?!
