Shame Web Designers do crappy code that makes FF a bit naff looking
but I dont like the way downloads are handled like web footage.
I'm not saying that we should all bow down and worship the God of internet - IE!
But the fact that it's designed to intergrate with quite a number of applications is very impressive. Admittedly there a various faults with IE in terms of security holes. Additionally I wasn't happy, ethically, with the defacto intergration of IE4 with windows as it forced non-savvy or lazy users not to consider alternatives. Also, unfortunately, IE's strength is also it's weakness as it's flexibilty allows outside users access to the code and the ability to misuse that.
However, on the other side it was a brilliant marketing ploy and with the advent of broadband and 22Meg permanent internet connections connections, doesn't active desktop seem more attractive now?
By the way, that parrot i bought earlier....?"Life? Life is nature's way of keeping meat fresh!"0 -

I think that was a really good idea, Just think back to how many
users were on the net back then and didnt have a clue about browsers.
It wasnt that long ago.... :eek:0 -

I meant from a consumer choice and monopoly point of view.
But yes it was brilliant but too early, windows ME was the one it took off on."Life? Life is nature's way of keeping meat fresh!"0 -
Usual thing - somebody (Xerox, Netscape, Stacker, WinZip etc) comes up with a better mousetrap, and voila Win+1 has mousetrap integrated... I'm sure MS must have come up with something innovative at some point, can't think what though.0

Creating a 32K file for every favoUrite is quite uniquely stupid as well
As is a search function that ignores/excludes system files by default. (anyone know how to fix that (permanently)?)
And the slowest search function possible in a registry editor
A defragmenter that never finishes (or starts), then when it does get to 10% tells you that you need to run scandisk first, and quits.
A sound recorder that only lasts a minute.
A bloated media player that tries to connect to the internet every time you play an avi.
A 400 millisecond menu delay.
An internet browser that writes everything you view to disk, instead of using RAM, or allowing you to choose (like Netscape).
A windows installer that takes half an hour to get to the point where you put in the serial number, then rejects it as invalid.
A wireless networking monitor that pops up, everytime your neighbour switches their wireless router on.
You have unused icons..
A usrmgr with no scroll bars, so you can't see long names
Findfast!
Powerpoint - what would your manager do all month, if he couldn't endlessly tweak their graphics for the 15 minute monthly sales figures presentation
Outlook Personal Folders that get corrupt when you hit 2GB
Transparent windows in Vista (I can't wait!)
Anyone old enough to remember the pre-bloat days, before excel had a flight sim embedded in it .. look at this
the first spreadsheet - 26K ! Not a wizard in sight.
