Ok so when you have a site that is designed with IE in mind because its
the most popular browser, this makes no difference then, apart from adding
to a browser that already uses more resources than IE..

    No thanks.....
  • Sorry to jump in here guys but I've used a lot of browsers in my time mosaic, netscape, firefox to name a few and IE is just better in every way. It's pure intergration factor just beats everything else hands down.

In your eyes maybe. I use IE and will stick with it but then again I have
    the correct security in place..

Shame Web Designers do crappy code that makes FF a bit naff looking
but I dont like the way downloads are handled like web footage.

If you want to run your own scan test go here and click on "Start the test"

I just had a go at doing that (in explorer - have recently downloaded firefox but checked hotmail from msn and it automatically openned IE and i was too daft to notice - btw can i make it use firefox?!) - but my computer came up with a virus alert (and i shut the window, running a virus scan - 'disinfection has failed'?!!)... i assume that virus alerts aren't normal on running the test?!

IE is fine. A few tweaks and it won't cause any problems.

For me it's what you have setup outside of the browser that is important.

Also, Intel does have a point. IE has been at the forefront of the web for years, and still is the most popular browser. It's bound to be attacked. Everyone switching to another browser is just going in circles. For me it's having a hardware and software firewall, good av, and a good anti-spyware app that provides the best security. I also run all my browsers through a local proxy (Proxomitron).

    Personally I use three browsers.
Firefox for developing as it has some great extensions.
IE generally, for personal and development.
Opera as my personal browser as it's the fastest and lightest of the three.

Firefox was originally my personal browser, but I'm put off by the huge amount of system resources it likes to eat up, especially if you leave it open for prelonged periods.
