You're not the first person here Abbey has done that to. I beleive Abbey wouldn't let the other person (can't remember who, was quite a while ago) use the account until they were discharged. It's bang out of order. Definitley do as Tigerfeet suggests and get onto your OR.

HSBC were my biggest creditors but didn't touch any of my 3 childrens accounts (probably the only good thing they ever did for us:D )

It's not so much not being able to use it, more worried they might take his money. I will try and speak to OR about it Monday.

If it's not one thing it's another. I found out yesterday that Dec child benefit went into the old halifax acc (I had called tax credits on Dec13th and told them of the change of acc to the barclays one - and they said,oh we will tell CB for you, dont worry it's all sorted) luckily my ctc and wtc DID go into the new acc, but it transpires they did not tell CB.....I called CB and they said take it up with TC, so i did, only to be told, sorry, we can understand your frustration but there is nothign we can do! I (politely) told them that I expect them to repay me that money! After all, I know mistakes happen and if that means a 'late' payment then so be it, but to miss it altogether because of someone's mistake....!!!!! ok, so maybe to them £75.20 is not huge, but that is MY money for my little boy, I am so p'ed off about it all, as I have had to call them now about 3 times. The chap I spoke to said he would get a manager to call me back 'if I wanted to make a complaint and try and get my money back' - what does he think! of course I do!!!! The manager said pretty much the same thing, sorry for the mistake...! I am now waiting for yet another call from someone else next week to try and resolve this - I just cant see how they can justify NOT paying me this money again, as the manager said 'I can see a note on your account saying you called on the 13th to change bank details and this note says that we will pass them onto CB' Which evidently they didn't....grrrrrr am so annoyed! Why does everythign seem to have issues and nothigns bloody simple!

Still getting a letter or two from one creditor, they must have heard from the OR by now as I have had that letter from the Abbey saying that they have. Oh well, at least now I can read it without feeling sick and panicing that someone is just about to come and knock on the door.
Still have heard no more from the OR re IPO or tax code etc....just a waiting game at the moment. Oh and no call from the tax credits people about my child benefit they owe me. Grrrrr....

Hi Newera, sorry you are having troubles. Can you get your OR to release the money to you from the Halifax account at all? It is a benefit payment so the Halifax should not keep it and should return it to you, they will just need the OR's permission to release it from the account I would have thought. apologies if you have already tried this.

  • Hi, Newera. Have just read your story and it has given me hope that there may be light somewhere at the end of the tunnel (currently looking at BR in near future). One thing that occurs to me is about your payments to e-on. Npower tried a similar thing with us just before christmas, they wanted us to up our DD payments as according to them we would be in debit over the next few months. I politely informed them that if they re did their calculations over a 12 month cycle instead of over the coldest 6 months of the year then they would actually OWE US money! They sheepishly agreed and ended up reducing our joint DD by £25 a month.

It seems to me that they have a scam where they base everyones payments on the coldest (and most expensive) 6 months of the year. This means you will be up to date in this period and they will have loads of your hard earned cash in the summer for them to earn interest on!!!!!

like I said it could be worth a phone call.

Had a very strange letter today - has anyone else had this happen..?

Two days ago I had a letter from council tax saying that Feb payment would be £264...on further investigation I worked out that they had not taken the DD for Jan (no wander I had more money than I thought in my acc!) so Feb's was for two payments.
Then today I receive a letter from them saying "I am writing to you to confirm that the Council have agreed to the following payment arrangement to clear your council tax" balance £263.99 - Please note that £112.64 has been included in your claim for bankruptcy and does not need to be paid - Installment due on 01/02/09 £151.35

Why has this happened? I was not in arrears with the CT, have been paying by DD with no issues at all. Why have they included £112 in the BR? (not that I'm complaining at £112 off!) but I find it very strange. Has anyone had this happen or any idea why?

Not heard a peep from the OR re the SOA or anything as yet. It's been over a month now, but I guess what with Christmas and New Year it can take more time. I know they must be looking into things as got the letter from Abbey, Halifax and that weird letter from Council Tax.

One month down eleven to go!
