    @ buglawton, the OP never said that they were working to a budget, just asked for "best touch screen phone"

    OP, funnily enough tonight on The Gadget Show they tested the best touch screen phone.

    They tested the Blackberry Storm, iPhone 3G, Google Android and HTC Touch HD.

    The winner and my personal recommendation was the HTC.

    I love HTC devices, they kick @$$.

    I do returns at work as part of my job and the Iphone and the Ignito (HCT diamond) are the most common by far. With that in mind, take time to go to different stores and ask to see a live demo phone so you can try them out yourself.

    A lot of MSE members reading this thread will be interested in the topic of what is the best touch screen phone, then want see what is affordable. And perhaps "best" should include a value-for-money element.
