Setting up the picture took a bit of a fiddle to stop it being so pixely but its looking good now.
Thanks everyone!!
I havnt got one myself. But basically you want to turn off all the cra**y 'digital processing' modes
It'll also takes a while for the tv to settle down from new
I found these as a starting point for you ~
Picture mode: Cinema
Backlight: Min (at night with the light off, higher in the day)
Contrast: 88
Brightness: 47
Colour: 47
Colour Temp: Warm 2
Sharpness: Min (or 3 for freeview)
Noise Reduction: Off
Mpeg Noise Reduction: Off (or High for freeview)
Adv Contrast Enhancer: Off
Live Colour: Off
Power Saving: Off __________________
I wouldnt swear these are right as he doesnt explain how he got them. Id recommend a THX setup disc (On every THX disc, terminator 2, star wars etc) to set contrast and brightness:idea:0 -

What do people think should I wait or buy now.
Also can anyone recommend a good lcd telly for around £500 i would like a philips on panasonic
Curry's have a sale on now i think its a Samsung 42" £486.00The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0 -
Proper high definition via HDMI inputs look great on HD displays, but I can't for the life of me figure out why people rush to buy the things only to watch standard definition TV. SD (especially Sky's very average quality MPEG-2) looks appalling on HDTV displays. PS3 and Wii output looks pretty good if you're into gaming and stuff - which I'm not.0

Not entirely true. I dont have sky but my father does. Sky+ looks awesome (Especially on movie channels) on his Pioneer 43" through a scart cable (A very expensive scart cable, but a scart cable never the less)
SD dvds look awesome on my 42" Pioneer. Better than my PS3 or my Pioneer dvd player when they try and upscale instead of my tv.
SD is down to how well the tv 'scales' to fit its screen. If yours is particularly bad, then its probably a very bad scaler.:idea:0 -
Id agree with AlienRik, it depends on your SD source. We have a Panny TH37-PX80B plasma. The analogue picture is pretty poor, very soft and not nice to watch. The digital freeview signal is much better. However via a Virgin V+ box over HDMI the picture is excellent.
Having said that I agree there is no need to ruch out and buy a HD Tv. We only did becuase our CRT gave up the ghost. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
