I wonder just how long it's going to take before it dawns on people in this country that their money isn't worth much any more - either abroad or for buying imported goods. Probably not until they finally come back from their next holiday shell-shocked and penniless. (If they've still got a home to come back to.)

Things are that bad, in (and for) Britain.

So, buy now, while you still can...

I can certainly vouch for this. I'm in the US at the minute, where £100 gets me around $147. When I was here six months ago, I got over $200 for the same amount.
  • We popped into Currys this afternoon to see if we could catch one of these in action to check out the picture on it. There wasnt one there, but there was a 37v4000 and it didnt seem too great.. would it be any different on the 40in?
I did however find out I have quite expensive taste as everyone I stopped at and went... oh.. this is good was lots of money! Particually the 40z4500.. very nice!!

I am a complete novice at this TV game, have picked up a brochure from currys though and im trying to get my head around the different aspects of it.

As far as I can make sense of it..(Is this right?)
    1080p is the best?
A bigger hz number means a quicker refresh rate so clearer picture?
a higher contrast rate means more vivid colours?
Still clueless about the sound options lol.

So what out of hz/ conrast is more important?

We dont have a HD player or sky box and will be sticking with normal DVD for quite a while yet.

We just want a clear picture, which isnt fuzzy when watching sports etc.

Also, if anyone can let me have details of the 40v4000 in the richer sale that would be great.. I signed up for the VIP email earlier but havnt had anything from them yet.

    Thanks all. xx

    Rainbow ~
Currys (And comets/dixons etc) tvs are NEVER set up correctly
Contrast is too high, all 'digital modes' switched on, poor extension leads used etc.
Dont think for one sencond what you ssee in the shop is the ACTUAL achievable quality of the tvs you view.

1080P IS the best when done correctly. But a decent 720P will blow away a mediocre 1080P (Especially in your price range)
Dont read into 'specs' too much. If they were true then LG tvs would be the best (theyre not, FAR from it in fact)
    100Hz ~ generally BS
Most decent 50Hz sets will outperform the 100Hz ones (Though most decent tvs bow have 100Hz as standard these days anyways)

Best tvs are (in order) Pioneer, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung (Generally speaking)

WHAT HIFI (the link I provided) review tvs under all conditions. the fact it had 5 stars at 900 quid means its a DAMN good tv

Im afraid you wont receive the 'boxing day' email (Though I can send it to you if you want to give me your email address)

Oh dear.. I thought I was confused before. Now I have no idea at all :o

So if the specs are sometimes irrelevant and the display models not set up correctly how on earth does a clueless thing like me end up with a decent tv? :rotfl:

AliEnRIK - Have pm'd you my email. Thank you. xx

  • Thanks very much for the email. I rang our local (50miles away) store to suss out the situation. They have none in at the moment, will be getting 7 in when closed over xmas ready for the sale, its first come first served, and that there is normally people queing for a couple of hours before the store opens at 10.

Phew.. I didnt know people got so excited over tellys! I will have to have a chat with Mr butterfly and see if he fancies getting out of bed early!!

    Thanks again. xx

    (originally 900!)

It's available there for £569 delivered.

    And a 42" Panasonic for £564. http://www.properprice.co.uk/panasonic-th42px80b-6196.html

I just googled the Sony tv model number and found that comparison site, better offers are probably out there.
