right, just checked your disk sizes, you shouldn't be attempting to store anything on your
/ drive, this is for system recovery use only.... ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

in the disk cleanup box I selected d drive then clicked more options. From there I saw a box system restore and shadow copies which says you can free up more space by removing all but the most recent restore points in some editions of vista the disk might include file shadoe copies and older windows complete pc bnackup images as part of restore points.
I then clicked clean up is this right? Nothing seems to have happened though and Im still not able to back up
yes, clean up AFTER selecting the system restore & shadow copies...it may take a while from clicking that box to gather the info before allowing you to then proceed with the cleanup....and remember to do it on both drives.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

RIK, have had to do this on MIL's pc running vista, same process for each partition. The need to do the full cleanup again after the defrag is because vista seems to open each file as it's defragging it, which in turn creates ANOTHER round of shadow/backup copies  ...the net effect is that you end up with LESS free disk space AFTER you've defragged

I always thought vista sucked
Oh, and I'm assuming you're manually backing up ?? If so, make sure you specify the larger HDD partition to save the backup image on
I switched off all Vistas security features, switched off the auto defrag and knocked the max size of system restore down.
Doesnt seem SO bad after that

might try that on my vista lappy, see how it goes and then do same to MILs pc.......may give me less grief when we go over there

the unstoppable Conor eh?
What did you do THIS time?
Dared to have an opinion as usual.
I do wish that someone would educate the admins in how the internet works. They'd stop pointless banning. Currently banned by IP address and as you can see, that's working real well for them.
Was using a proxy server but instead I use Tor so no two log ins are even from the same country, let alone my ISP's IP address tool. Currently it would appear I'm posting from Boston, MA, USA. I think the last session was Luxembourg. Wonder where it'll be later on tonight...Conor
