  • Sir, the main residence is worth around £500k in this market and the total outstanding mortgage including BTL is £465k.
Of course everything is paper value but I would (because of the area) still be confident of selling the main residence if I needed to.
The BTL's have all got tenants in (at the moment) but who knows what is around the corner.
I am lucky because I will keep my Job through this recession because the PORT is in a strong postion. I just feel sorry for the Home owners out there that have jobs in the retail sector they must be going through hell at the moment not knowing if they will have jobs in the new year.
I feel even more sorry for the STR's who banked on getting a good interest rate on their pots and not realising that what they wished for could also be their own undoing.

You said the main residence was worth £500k six months ago, we've had 10% of drops since then, better re-do the maths buddy-boy! Don't want to upset you but if you've got a 50% mortgage on a £350k house, and the reno costs and fees, you got a very big mrtgage there mate for someone on £36k a year, plus the BTLS, phew - glad it's not me!!

You putting it on the market soon? Be interesting to see if you get any takers, personally that end of the market is dead, the few with offers just sit there waiting for chains to complete, seat of the pants stuff if you need to sell it quick

The main residence is still worth £500k because of the area it is in and a similar property sold within days of going on the market and the new owners moved in a week before Christmas.
You worry about my big mortgage, well thank you for caring but I dont worry and if everything went tits up the whole country will be beyond repair as well.

I'm not worried about your big mortgage but I think you should be!!

Seems it's the old chestnut of they-won't-go-down-in-MY-area, oh no - evreyone else's house will crash in value but not my done-up 1950's ex-la with the laminate flooring, haha:T :T :T

i still understand why I should be worried about my mortgage?
The area I am in has no ex la in the area and you need a passport to get into our road.
There are no signs that any of the houses in our road have dropped or are likely too, this still is a road that everybody would (if they could afford to) love to live in.
Never understood why anyone would install laminate when you can buy solid wood flooring cheeper than you can carpet the rooms?

Just out of interest Pickles....which road is it?

Purely out of interest as a Felixstowe gal.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Shurely there are only 2 roads in Felistow, Prosititution and Destitution? Isn't it a bit of a one horse town?
