What to do

Im not really an ebay user, but have just sold a bulk package of items lfet over from my friends shop closing, which is only the second thing I have ever sold.

Anyway, there were over 100 things in total, and as I packaged them myself I know that all of them went into the box, and the buyer was sent exactly what I had advertised.

But Ive just checked my account and the guy has left a message saying that there are 10 missing and can he have a discount or the missing ones sent.

As I say, I checked and double checked the exact no before I put the items on ebay, then boxed them up and waited for them to sell. So I know 100% that the full number was sent.

I just dont know what to do really, I dont want to give a partial amount of money back, as to be honest I have already subsidised the postage by £9 and more importantly I feel as if the OP is telling lies.

So thats where the advice comes in I guess, what would you do if you got a message like that. Im really disappointed, the message was chatty enough, but its not the point, as I say I know how many I packaged up, but its now my word against his.

Thanks guys

It would depend on the cost of the total item and the feedback of the other person, but if your instint says that this guy is pulling a swift one dont give him anything back.

If he leaves a negative feedback do the same to him!

Just tell him you checked and double checked that everything was packaged and see what he replies with.

This is what we have sent through, god it really is enough to put you off of ebay!

    Hi,

Im not sure what has happened as we only had those sim cards and were very careful in checking the number we had prior to listing and included all of the sim cards in the box when they were sent. I'm afraid as we are 100% sure that we included all sim cards we can not give a partial refund or indeed send any others out to you. The only thing I can suggest at this time is that you get the box re-weighed as we have receipts as to how much postage we paid and so can work out the weight of the box when it was sent so will know by wieght what was included. We can quite happily tell you the postage paid (which was well over the estimate we had allowed) and if necessary send a copy to you. We packaged the whole thing very carefully, so if it was tampered with at all prior to you opening it that might be an indication of something untoward happening prior to posting.

Although we have sympathy for you in any that may be missing, and are very sorry that we can't give you any refund at this time, but Im sure you can understand our position in that we are very very sure that we posted all sim cards that were due, and therefore would be out of pocket for the goods which you have bid for.

Your response seems well balanced, the bit about the weight is particularly inspired.

There was an article in the Which magazine just before Christmas about tampering, where items were sent, carefully opened en route and re sealed, so although that seems very rare, it might have happened.

The only word of warning i would have though is that if the buyer paid by paypal he might try a claim for item not as described, it would then be a case of which way paypal decided as it wouldn't be clear cut.

Thanks Soo, what I decided to do now is to also tell Ebay about the problem now before any dispute arises, so that at least they are aware that I am disturbed by it, maybe I ll have a look into doing the same with paypal, jsut incase!

Thank you, seemed like logic to me, as if they are right and Im wrong then the post should be able to prove one way or the other...Only problem is I dont have any sim cards to be able to test the weight my end!!!! Hopefully it won't come to that if he is lying, then that might (cross fingers) put him off going any further, and if it has been tampered in the post then we can both prove it (maybe!).

To be honest though, it has completely put me off of ebay, I only did it to help a friend out and the money isnt even mine to worry about, but Im a stickler for principal!!

I think that a bonus that you have on your side in this situation is that as you yourself stated in your original, opening post you are not a regular eBay user.

Therefore if it comes to it, you are not going to become as upset as a regular seller if it comes to receiving a negative feedback for this sale and are in a good position not to be "held to ransom" by a buyer playing games with you, which appears to be occuring on an increasingly regular basis...

Excellent e-mail in your post above :)

P.S. I seriously suspect that someone is telling fibbies and I don't think that it's you ;)
