Hi I've noticed 5minutesway is no longer on line.
There's a new site justoffjunction.co.uk which list alternative motorway services0 -

Tasty spam - only £10 at a Michael Wood's0 -
A 10 year old thread. The first post says 2003 on my PC."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I do a lot of motorway miles, and I only ever use the service stations for calls of nature. Their prices are a disgrace, yet there are people queueing at every food outlet seemingly happy to put up with the awful food and service, and all the time there are people prepared to do this, these places will continue to thrive and prosper.0

Pimento, the thread was started 10 years ago, but the last post before was big_al 2 post was 5 years ago.
I also like the quote below, because it mentions petrol cost back then, now how much is it a litre?wrote: »Just to revive this one. Why not stop at supermarkets that are located just off the motorway? Larger Tesco, Sainsbury and ASDA stores usually have decent restaurants, toilets, take away sandwiches etc - most have cheap fuel too. Regular travellers will probably find these through trial and error, but to ease the process at least one supermarket - Tesco - has a free booklet with maps of the entire UK and locations of/ directions to every supermarket. The booklets are regularly updated - they should be available in the Petrol Stations.
You can get a decent full english for about £3 compared with £7 or £8 at Services, and fuel at about 74p/l
A good example is the Tesco that is just a few hundred yards from the M6 on the A69 at Carlisle - great stop-off point for a North/ South long haul.0 -

The M1 has 46 junctions and I say half of them have an out of town retail park or supermarket within 3-5 miles of the junction.
The only things I will buy at a service station are newspapers and magazines as they are the same price regardless where you buy them.0 -
You can say the same with railway stations. £2.79 for a bag of sweetsin a railway owned shop like WHSmiths. With thanks to supermarkets opening local stores, I bought the same packet of sweets in the Sainsburys Local inside Leeds train station for a quid!
Plus the supermarkets' lunch deals are better quality and variety than Upper Crust etc.0
