There is a recipe for a banana cake made in the liquidiser and using only one banana here: http:// baking-decorating-cakes.suite101.com/article.cfm/easy_banana_cake_recipes
(sorry can't post links)0 -
Just to put my thoughts in as it were, I doubt the recipe would be from the 1950 or even early 60's, I'm sure blenders would not be common then and used in an everyday cookbook. I have a 37th ed Bero Baking book and its not in there. Just didn't want you to spend your money and be disappointed.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
i googled banana cake when i wanted a recipe and came up with a good one by the wisley cafe banana cake recipe.
however..... and in answer to the lady who didnt want to put oil in the cake.....i was in such a rush to get the cake into the oven before the grandchildren arrived, that i didnt read it all properly first and would you believe that i forgot to put the oil in!!!!!!!!!!!
was really worried about how it would turn out, but it was the most delicious, light and fluffy cake you could wish for.
so now, when myself and my two daughters make the banana cake, none of us use oil in it. i think that it would make it rather heavy???? one of my daughters uses less sugar, but puts an extra banana in and it tastes wonderful.
on all the receipes, it did take a bit longer to cook than they said though.
and i put lemon icing on it as well.0 -

Hello Woofles. Thanks. I know the recipe was from around that time, certainly no later than the 60's as I worked at the time for a local council from 1968/69 to 1972. I know it came from an old Bero book then, it wasn't in the one that was current at that time.
The liquidisers that were around then were not like the modern day blenders, they were more for just making drinks. At the time, I had a recently aquired Kenwood chefette. It had a liquidiser that came with it, you stood the hand mixer on its end and screwed the liquidiser into the other end. There were several free-standing liquidisers around at the time, I think 'Sunbeam' was a popular model.
Kenwood Chefette
Kenneth Grange also designed the Kenwood Chefette, a smaller, hand held version in 1966. This was a more affordable way to get some of the Kenwood Chef style in your kitchen. The Kenwood Chefette cost £11 16s in 1966, but a stand and bowl were £3 19s extra (still £150, for the Chefette without the bowl, in today's money - compare this with the prices of modern, hand held mixers). The Chefette had some of the features of the Kenwood Chef, such as several speeds of operation and it also came with a liquidiser. The Chefette did not have the build quality of the Chef, and did not last as well.
I've still got that 'Chefette' in my cupboard, it hasn't been out for years, in fact the last thing I probably did in it would have been that blooming banana cake!!:D I wonder if it still works? I've had a newer fancier one since then, although can't say I really use that much either, too much trouble getting it out of the box!!:D0 -
Wow, I'm going to be busy trying all these Banana cake recipes, thanks a lot all of you, much apprieciated.0 -
I've just mixed up the gary rhodes one and it's in the oven now. 10mins to go and it smells fandabbydozzy! When hubby comes home, he'll think I got it from my next-door-neighbour who makes these quite often and hands one in.
Thanks to the op for starting this thread and to the poster of the gary rhodes recipe for inspiring me to try this.:TOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
