I bought very similar tubs from the market. Ten for £1 and they have lasted ages.

    Hi Glam,

I got mine at ikea, the ones with the red lids. They are 75p each, but my ex takeaway tubs could only cope with about 4 cycles of freezer, microwave, dishwasher before splitting! The ones we've got now have daily use and we've had them over a year!

Good idea to batch cook with baby coming, I felt like I was being my own best mate when Fergie arrived and I didn't have to cook anything! :D

    Thanks everyone!

Weezl - how many portions do those ones hold? I live very close to IKEA so can easily get them.

Just searching thru the board to find some good recipes for batch cooking now!

Lindsay - I would take the food out each morning, defrost and then cook.

My god. I woudn't pay Ikea's prices. Go to your local £ shop.

I hate washing the b*ggers up so end up ditching them half the time. Not very cost effective but I value my time more. :rotfl:

I use 500g margarine tubs. (washed out of course) They hold enough for 2 people (or 1 very hungry person). They will last for years but don't fare well in a dishwasher. Of course there is nowhere to write on the contents. But I don't mind this and part of the fun is guessing the contents; chilli, bolegnese, curry, stew.

Hi eamonn regarding the margarine tubs - not a good idea.
According to Food Safety Standards they are not designed for the task and there are chemicals in there that will leak into your food.
    Containers and Wraps

    • Only use cookware that is specially manufactured for use in the microwave oven. Glass, ceramic containers, and all plastics should be labeled for microwave oven use.
    • Plastic storage containers such as margarine tubs, take-out containers, whipped topping bowls, and other one-time use containers should not be used in microwave ovens. These containers can warp or melt, possibly causing harmful chemicals to migrate into the food.

oh stew is a good idea! I'm a bit of a fussy eater so don't have much imagination when it comes to food!

It depends how many of these you want to use because when they're empty they can take up an awful lot of cupboard space. You can probably find them in Iceland, Wilkinsons, Pound shops. Lakeland do very tough see-through zip fastener plastic bags for storage of such food which can be washed over and over again and stored flat in a drawer and I now use these all the time rather than stiff containers. You can probably order them via their website.
