Mine was liquid - a soup made from stock and veg... It seems on defrosting to have kinda gone a bit watery looking.???
Thanks everyone for your help and tips... I am a bit of a noob at freezing HM stuff so bear with me if I ever have anymore questions. I am going to try curries, stews, chilies all kinds... so may have some more to come in time. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
I'm going to treat myself to some new tubberware stuff to try and organize our new freezer. There are only 2 main drawers so I'm trying to to split up food into individual portions. 1 drawer veg, 1 drawer meat portions, 1/2 drawer bulk cooked food.
What sizes do you use for freezing portions of pasta, chilli etc? I want to get lots ones that will fit together well in my limited freezer. I am looking at lakeland but there is alot of choice.
I was also thinking about getting some steam bags so I can make individual portions of veg to chuck straight in the microwave. Does anyone use these?
Likewise boil bags. Does anyone use these?
Any good sugestions of tubs or bags that I haven't thought of?
Thanks

i just use tubs that ive had from a takeaway curry to be honest. they're perfect for portion size and stack up neatly. then i have a sticker on the top of each lid that i write on the contents and the date i made it. im guessing you could get some of these from a chinese supermarket or similar? or from makro if you're a member.
zip lock bags that are made especially for liquids are good aswell if you make and freeze soup. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
We keep all plastic containers with lids like cream pots, pasta sauce pots etc.
Also freeze stuff on plate or tray and when frozen put into bag,
Don't use a bag for each portion i.e.bacon, sausage, sliced bread or rolls. Wrap each portion in cling film then put into bag. Take portion out as you need it.0 -
You can get those take away tubs in Instore/Poundstretcher.
If you get a permanent marker you can label the plastic directly (no need for stickly label). It rubs off in the wash easily after use.0 -
Where is the best place to get these from? I had loads at one point. buit somehow I'm left with loads of boxes and no lids

Don't know how big you want the tubs to be.. but if you have a poundland near you they do rectanglular tubs and bowls. 10 in each pack. The rectangle ones are like the one you get from the chinese takeaway.
Wilkinsons do similar but you get fewer tubs 5 I think for 80p or so.
I like them because the tub and lid is microwavable which is handy for reheating portions of food.0 -
Don't worry about lids! Line the tupperware with a freezer bag and secure, and freeze like that. Once it has taken shape, remove container - few hours later, and when defrosting pop back into the same container. Also takes up less room and you have your boxes for freezing other things.
I have lock in locks which are awesome but by no means cheap - My Mum bought me mine. These bad boys .
I can't take credit for this tip, I read it on here somewhere.!
If you know anyone who gets a lot of take out, those plastic containers are good, and very MSE as no cost (unless you end up buying chinese just to get them:rotfl:)A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I also use freezer bags moulding them into shape in all sorts of icecream, margarine cartons etc. Or line a dish with tin foil and once frozen wrap the food in the tin foil and return to the freezer freeing up the dish for using again. These threads should help:

I used to get loads of takeaway tubs from a neighbour that ate a lot of takeaways! If you know someone like this ask them for theyre used tubs! ~Ive nearly run out now due to giving away lots of portions and not getting the tubs back and she has moved!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4
