Anon... maybe they're calling your bluff?
What happened when you rang? How long has it been?
Maybe they will call you back & beg you to stay?
How long do they have to provide the requested MAC?
Good luck.SKIPS STONES FOR FUDGE0 -
They have up to five days to provide the MAC - not worried if they call my bluff as the current deal with o2 is much cheaper.

Hi there
I have been with AOL for at least a couple of years now, maybe more.
I am on dial up, which has been costing me £9.99 month.
I have just received an email telling me the following;
Your AOL dial-up package will change:
More than 10 years ago, AOL Broadband was the first service provider to introduce a flat rate dial-up internet connection. From day one, we have always been committed to bringing you the best possible service and offering you better value for money wherever and whenever we can. However, in order to continue supporting our older dial-up service we’ve had to review our pricing structure for the first time in six years.
Your AOL dial-up package includes:
-
A reliable 56kbps internet connection
-
No minimum term commitment or cancellation fee - just pay month-by-month
- Award-winning online advice and support 24hrs a day, 7 days a week
We have a wide range of broadband products with fast download speeds of up to 8Mbps (depending on your line and location). That’s up to 160 times faster than your current dial-up connection. What’s more, all of our broadband packages include a wireless router worth £50. All you need is a BT line to get started. Here are some of our best broadband offers:
- - Broadband with no minimum term contract from £14.99 a month*, with a special offer
- of £4.99 for the first 3 months and NO set up fee (normally £29.99)
- - Broadband with a free laptop and AOL Talk from just £19.99 a month†
- - Broadband from £14.99 a month# plus you get the first month free
If I dont choose broadband, a further email informs me I shall have to start paying £13.99 a month for my dial up.
I am not impressed (a) because it means me forking out another £4 a month when I have been loyal to AOL and (b) because I feel like I am being harrassed into faffing about changing.
I know some people on here have mentioned a MAC code, what is that please and what would others do in my situation?
Obviously broadband would be quicker and more efficient, but I have held back as I am on a tight budget and cant afford another £4 a month just like that, not with everything else going up. Plus you would think after showing loyalty (maybe naively) that you would get a bit of a better deal.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Also if/when I contact AOL, is it better by phone or by email? Im thinking that with email I have some proof of what has been discussed.
Thanks
p.s. I am not technically minded, so would like the simplest easiest option please!0 -

Sorry that web site is https://www.plus.netBetter to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

Thanks for the above
Have just been trying to search out alternatives, but one additional point to my previous post is that I DO NOT want to be tied into a contract. That was the appeal of AOL in the first place.
As for plus net, not being funny, but I am a bit wary of things I havn't heard of before, I would prefer to be with a recognised company. But thank you SALOPMAN for your reply.0 -
Hi can verify they are a decent company donnydiva. My friend has had them for 2 years now and never lost connection and the 10 quid just goes out each month no problems,Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

I rang them today to cancel my mums service and was immediately offered £6.99 with unlimited calls too. I didn't even try to haggle with them.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0

They offered me nothing - £19.99 for years and nothing (not even the MAC - still waiting!).
