Orange - Multimedia Sub £3.40?

Sorry if this is the wrong part of the forum.

I've noticed that over the past 2 months I have received charges on my orange mobile phone bill for a 'multimedia sub' for £3.40 each time. The charges were both taken at 00:30.

I've tried phoning Orange but their a nightmare to get through to. Anyone have experience with this on their bill. After searching on a google, I came up with 1 person and that was in 2007.

Just to clarify, I don't use subscription services and haven't signed up for anything in the past 2 months.

  • I had this appear on my bill too. I have never used the subscription services (I have a T-Mobile Vario 3 unlocked and it won't access them). I have been in the mobile industry for about 10 years and know how to drive my phone!!

After about 30 minutes on the phone with one woman, with her saying that I had subscribed to them and me saying I haven't, it's impossible she agreed to refund 1 months worth (I think I'd been charged for 3 or 4 months).

I phoned back and got a quite helpful guy who looked into it and checked the time I was alleged to have subscribed against my orange internet access record and said he could see that I wasn't on the internet when the subscription was activated. He agreed to refund the charges and ensure the thing was cancelled. He said that he had never seen this happen before! Not sure that I believe him!

So, although it is hassle, I would ring them and demand (in a nice way) to know what they are charging you for (initially I was told that they don't know, in which case ask them how they can justify charging for it if they don't know what they're charging for!) and when you are alleged to have subscribed to the service. Then ask them to confirm whether you were using orange internet at this time and where your phone was. Hopefully they will not be able to prove it was you and so you should get a refund.

Also unsubscribe as soon as possible. I think you need to go onto Orange Wap on your phone, then your account & subscriptions and then cancel, as I say I can't access the service so can't tell you exactly!

    HTH ;)
Any opinions are my own and are offered as advice only and not fact.

    Thanks Ben,

Got a phone call from them today. Apparently i'd signed up for some sort of driving assistance on my phone (I hadn't) and the woman had acknowledged that I didn't know where it came from and gave me a refund straight away for each month that I had been charged for it.

Not happy it appeared in the first place, but pretty happy with the outcome.
  • live traffic information cameras? Interesting if it is, that's what they said that I'd signed up for. Wonder if anyone else has had the same?

  • Hi!

I read this topic after experiencing the same problem with my phone bill.... it just says "multimedia sub .......content................3:404". I have been billed for the last 5 odd months..

Orange were helpful, I got through straight away and they refunded some of the money which im happy with (I did have to ask for money to be refunded by the way).

I went to "orange world > your account > subscriptions" and noticed there was some traffic update/watch thing in there. I don't recall ever signing up to this service.

I know its only £3.40 , but it mounts up and is technically theft if you ask me!

All these scam's / greedy cunning ideas are really starting to annoy me now, theres so many people out their trying to make cash of vulnerable people or by misleading them.

    Anyway, all sorted now!
  • Hi.

Just joined the forum and thought I would share my experience.

I just received my bill and found the Multimedia Sub on my bill for the second time, was taken out on the same day and same time as the other one (23rd of the month, 7.19pm).

After googling it and finding this thread, I went into my orange world and checked my subscriptions. Turns out I was signed up to the live traffic TV aswell.

I remember months ago using the Traffic TV application that comes on my TyTN II and it said it was a 30 day/ 1 month free trial...I didn't realise that I had to opt out, I thought it would just stop working after 30 days.

I've just cancelled it on OW and this will teach me to look into things more before signing up!

Thanks for your help :T...was worried I was going to be getting charged the £3 odd a month from now on for no reason!
  • So I got my bill this month; the second one since I renewed my contract for a much cheaper plan (tip: just find a cheap plan with another company, phone them up saying you want to cancel your contract when it's ending and instead of letting me go, they halved my monthly bill!).

On my most recent bill is the £3.40 Traffic TV item.
Speaking to the customer service guy, he says not only was my phone's GPRS on at the time (which is mad because I never use it anyway) but that a few minutes later, just gone midnight, a 'text' was sent. I have no record of this, apparently something to do with GPRS meaning it doesn't come up on my bill, nor is it in my sent items.
This was a weekday; most likely I was asleep at midnight anyway.
Plus, I don't even drive, so there's no reason I would be looking at a traffic app.

I remember receiving a text at some point about it, and seeing yet another offer thing I didn't want, just deleted it - thinking it odd as I'd never even used it in the first place.

He didn't want to do anything about it - I asked how I could complain about it, that I hadn't used it and would never want to use it; he unsubscribed me but that was it.

Seeing that other people are having problems I might give it another go tomorrow.

Anyone else have the same thing - being told their internet was on and you'd actively subscribed, when you know you haven't?!
  • OK I sent them a whingey e-mail via the Contact us --> mobile phone route on the site.
Just got a call from a nice man who refunded it for me so it will come off my next bill.

    :T
  • Hey All,

    My 1st post on here.

I just noticed this too, renewed my orange contract in May.

Every month since, i've been charged £3.404 for a content service called 'TrafficTV'

I was shocked that Orange could do this, just sign you up to a service and start charging you every month for it.

Just off the phone to orange where they said to me ' you have to use the handset on the TrafficTV site, install the software and agree to terms and conditions, before you will be subscribed to the service'

Which is obviously not the case, but they tried to tell me that my actual hand set had been used to subscribe to this service at some point, although after being put on hold, and the person on the phone, getting a 2nd opinion, they agreed to refund the money off my next bill.

But like what was said above, you have to ask for the refund, or they will only agree to cancel the service and give you 'the handset was used to sign up' patter.

Been with orange for over 3 years, wont be nenewing the end of this contract, it's a terrible way to treat existing customers!

    Regards,

    Scott

I don't think that's a fair comment. One person on this thread has said they used this service, but at least 5 others have said that they haven't, and one has even got Orange to admit that he wasn't even on the wap when the service was supposedly subscribed to.
