Sony or samsung only.
This is total rubbish  comments like this are ill thought out and a waste of time. Sonys as an example: most recent screens are plagued with backlight bleeding problems w4000 / w4500 clouding issues, motion smearing v4000. Not everyone gets these issues but comments like this just arn't true.
Pioneer currently make the best plasma screens at the moment, dwarfing anything available by both Sony and Samsung. LG suprisingly have the best value for money plasma at the moment the 42pg6000 for picture quality it is better than most 1080p LCD sets. Im not a massive fan of LG lcds because of the unnatural colours given by the sets, one manufacturor is not best for everything.0 -
I wonder what the major differences are between all the 40" Sony models at the Richer Sounds site? All these are 40", 1080p, Freeview etc..
Sony KDL40V4000U £499
Sony KDL40L4000U £579
Sony KDL40W4000U £679
and then there's always the..
Sony KDL40Z4500U £1229
And if 40" is too big, go for a 32" one - £100 dearer than the cheapest one above
I take it the cheapest 40" model might be 'last generation'?
Anyway I agree with everyone one else here Mike, I'd be tempted to go with the Sony. Good luck with your buy.
V4000 and L4000 in the 40" are the same panel and processing tech, the v4000 features a few extra connections and a different finish.
The W4000 features a better processing engine, better blacks even though same rated contrast, much better sound and greater viewing angles. W4000 is much better overall.
The z4500 im sorry im not sure what is better about that from the top of my head, a quick google can easily sort that though.0 -
Went to Richer Sounds in Hull on boxing day looking for a 32". Had heart set on the Sony. Anyway, in the Hull store, they display all the 32" ones side by side with the screen overlapping all showing the same looped film. Either side of the Sony were a Panny and an LG. Compared to the Panny and the LG, the Sony didn't seem to have as much contrast and picture definition, even after a fair bit of faffing around by yours truly. The Panny beat them both but they had non. The LG was very close to the Panny, just being a tad less richer in the colour reproduction. The Sony really did look crap in comparison.
Lets put it this way, my wife could even tell the difference and she exacerbates me with her inability to see glitches. The V range of Sony panels do seem quite dire.0 -
