    Dear mikeopvc,

I am sorry that you feel you have been misadvised by one of our sales assistants in one of our stores.

I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise and to reassure you that we take matters such as this very seriously. It is strict company policy to never intentionally mislead or misadvise our customers in any way, especially as doing so would be both illegal, and extremely poor customer service!

Also, in response to some of the other comments on this thread, I can assure you that the last thing we want is to put any pressure on our customers as to a particular product or brand. Our sales assistants are their to advise customers to the best of their knowledge and to help ensure each of our customers gets the best product for their own requirements and budget. At the end of the day we always leave the final decision down to the customer as to which product they choose to buy.

As some of you may be aware, we work very hard to give our customers the best customer service and it is always disappointing to hear of any situation where we may have fallen short of our usual high standards. So that I may take this matter up with the manager and his team please could you contact me to advice which of our stores you visited and who you spoke to?

In the meantime, if I can be of any further help then please do let me know.

    Yours sincerely,

    John Clayton

    Hi John.
Respect to post on here. I speak from personal experience when I say ive had certain 'bad' advice. Also, my grandfather was 'pushed' some awful gale speakers in place of the KEFs I sent him to buy (Which we sent straight back I might add)

My personal views on Richer Sounds? Great for bargains, AWFUL for advice!

I wonder what the major differences are between all the 40" Sony models at the Richer Sounds site? All these are 40", 1080p, Freeview etc..
    Sony KDL40V4000U £499
    Sony KDL40L4000U £579
    Sony KDL40W4000U £679
    and then there's always the..
    Sony KDL40Z4500U £1229

And if 40" is too big, go for a 32" one - £100 dearer than the cheapest one above :)

I take it the cheapest 40" model might be 'last generation'?

Anyway I agree with everyone one else here Mike, I'd be tempted to go with the Sony. Good luck with your buy.

Even though my personal experience of Richer Sounds has been exceptional, I might add that while in the Belfast shop the other day I overheard another customer asking a staff member whether he should go for a Sony or an LG.

The staff member replied, and I quote, "LG and Samsung are the same company. Samsung make the screens for Sony. So even if you get a Sony then, whether you like it or not, it's the same as getting an LG".

Which is exactly why a 'little' bit of knowledge is dangerous......(shakes head)

    Indeed!

Although, I have to say, up until very recently I thought LG and Samsung were the same company. Certainly their mobile phones (including peripherals) were near identical at one time.

I used to work for one of the UK mobile phone networks. Ever year we attended a seminar with all the mobile phone manufacturers. I asked the LG (or was it the Samsung?) rep whether they were one and the same company, since their products are sometimes strikingly similar. The rep told me that they are not affiliated in any way, and the reason why even the GUI of their mobiles are so similar, is down to the designers/developers in Korea all having gone to the same colleges/universities, learning the same techniques etc etc..

(I took this with a pinch of salt though).

    Hi John

thanks for the response, perhaps you you may be able to help me.
I notice now that the sony tv I was interested in is at a reduced price but I can't get through to my local store as they are closed until boxing day.
How do I find out if they will have any left on boxing day morning, the website doesn't help as it is only available instore.
I could get my son to wait until boxing day but only if I'm sure to return with the TV.
    My local store - Chester
    TV required - Sony kdl32v4000

    thanks

I'm sure you've checked this yourself too, but I've had a quick look on Google and a load of price comparison websites. Not a single retailer (that I can find) are doing this TV for the Richer Sounds price of £299.

i can imagine the sales at richer sounds being a nightmare because in normal circumstances they often dont have the tv you want in stock.

Completely true, Richer Sounds talk absolute sh*te. Dont EVER take advice off them.
Don’t ever take advice from a sales assistant in any electrical shop.

If they were smart, they wouldn’t be working in an electrical shop.

    Happy Christmas everyone. :D

Thanks for that aliEnRIK! Very helpful. Bookmarked it for future ref. Didn't they used to use a similar coding for PC LCD monitors too?
I wonder if the Sony Centre sales assistants would have been willing to to share this knowledge about the lettering and what it all means?

(goes running off to find the full model name of my Dell :))
