I have been looking at the vast range of TV's that are on the market now its mind boggling. I also see that new companies like LG are now producing good LCD screens that seem to be as good as the old makes like SONY.
Does anyone have any advice or information on what to avoid please
many thanks

i would look at your budget, then look at the hd output of these tvs, 750 gp or 1080
then look at what elese the tv offers , things like back lighting etc,
you might find that the lg is good value for money or the sony one .
i personally would choose a panasonic viera as these have the things i want on them
then think about what size you want your tv 28" 32" 42 " etc
this will help you to determine whats best for you ...
etc

Im thinking that 42" is probably achievable in the new year when they come down in the sales. I have seen a display in our Tescos Extra which the LG seems to have the best display but is this just likely to be the way they have set them up please0

please remember in tesco the feed for tvs is usually all off one device so its doesnt exactly show exactly what kind of picture you will get ..

Debatable how big the sales will be in the New Year. The pound has dropped considerably against the dollar so imports will be more expensive next year.
Personally I'd get a Panasonic Viera Plasma rather than an LCD.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Hi, i have a LG 37' 1080 p LCD telly and very happy with the picture via SD,blu-ray and games consoles, but the next telly i will buy will be a plasma due to the fact that blacks are blacks on plasma's due to not using a backlight and at the moment the Panasonic Viera is the one i would buy.0

How big is the room it's going into?
How far will you be stting from the TV?0 -
Decide on the size and your budget first, then go and demo a few. Only way to tell which one you like the best is to demo them.
I just sold my panasonic 50PX70 in favour of a Pioneer LX5090, and boy what a difference that made. Obviously there is a large price difference, but you need find what is best for you. Don't be sucked in by all the big numbers.
Also work out what distance you will be sitting at to see if 1080P is worth a look in. Usually it's not based on viewing distance and source material. A weak 1080p set is worse than a strong 720p set.0 -

LG are not a new company, they have been around for years, they were formerly named Goldstar.
Not the best TV's on the planet.
Plasma is the best option at anything over 40" screen size.0 -
Another word of advice when getting demo's of TV sets. Get the shop to show you the picture when connected to a standard SD source such as Sky or Freeview. Some shops will feed all of their sets with a HD source to make them look awesome and this is fair game because they are selling HD sets. But, and this is the big but that sorts the wheat from the chaff, a lot of the lesser quality sets just don't handle regular SD content very well at all and let's be honest, 98% of the time you're going to be watching regular old telly channels.
I have compared regular Sky TV between a Sony and a Samsung set and the difference was very apparent. The Sony picture was far better.0
