Another word of advice when getting demo's of TV sets. Get the shop to show you the picture when connected to a standard SD source such as Sky or Freeview. Some shops will feed all of their sets with a HD source to make them look awesome and this is fair game because they are selling HD sets. But, and this is the big but that sorts the wheat from the chaff, a lot of the lesser quality sets just don't handle regular SD content very well at all and let's be honest, 98% of the time you're going to be watching regular old telly channels.

I have compared regular Sky TV between a Sony and a Samsung set and the difference was very apparent. The Sony picture was far better.

A request to connect a demo set to an SD aerial is usually met with: "I'm afraid we can't do that because......................"

I tried Currys, Dixons & Comet and none would do it ! However my local John Lewis (actually a Waitrose !) were more than willing, one set needed someone to go and get a longer aerial lead, which they did. The staff seemed very competent as well.
I didn't buy a TV at the time, but when I get one it will be from John Lewis.

and get the benifit of a 5 year warranty too - don't forget they will price match too
The comet guy did say that you needed to check SD as not all sets handled this well.
falls off chair, as Comet guy tells customer something helpful

    Respect to John lewis.
I personally HATE Currys and Comet
As a sort of guide to SD scaling, heres the manufacturers in order of best downwards (Generally speaking)
Pioneer (Head and shoulders above all the others), Panasonic, Sony, Samsung........
then it all gets a bit confusing from there on in

Nice tv mate! Bit large for my room but id certainly have bought one otherwise :p
Do you use a conditioner or tried a better mains cable?

    Thanks.

Nope standard all the way for me. This falls into the HDMI quality debate, and for the money, I'd rather get some more HD content. :D

IF youd posted that last year then you'd be right
    HOWEVER
Russ Andrews (VERY well known hifi guru) has since PROVEN that removing RFI (Mains interference) from hifi amps DOES reduce its THD (Total Harmonic Distortion)
Hes ALSO 'proven' that his braided mains cables reduce RFI and EMI (Mains and airbourne emmisions)
Ergo, theres IS no longer a cable debate ;)

This years only 5 days old, he's been a bit busy then, since there was no proof before...
"Ergo, theres IS no longer a cable debate "
There is until you provide a link to a reliable source

remember this is a Money Saving forum, you are into the law of diminishing returns with these cable, conditioners etc
